I'd much rather see a set of 4, but purchase 2 245/45-17 of your choice and put them on the back. You had better check the wheel closely for any distortion.

And watch your traction control go crazy. That's just asking for trouble putting two different diameters on a TL.

I would never replace with a stock tire either. Way too much money for such an average tire. What you get depends on what you want out of it and what your climate is like.

Think you'd better look at the diameters again before making the statement. Just to refresh your memory, the diameter of the OE Michelin is 25.6" and a 245/45-17 is 25.7", no problems there that I can see. If one were to purchase your suggestion, an aftermarket 235/45-17, they are only 25.3" when new, or @ 5/16" smaller than the OE tire.

Never too old to learn.
Looks like I'll need to watch my back every day! You really make the Forum a fun place to post!

I agree. You're pretty old but you can always learn new stuff.
Yes, 235/45 is the same diameter as a 245/45Lets not forget his existing tires have some wear on them.

You're gasping for straws. If that is your point of contention, then even a matching new OE Michelin wouldn't suffice as it also would be a different diameter when compared to the tires presently on the car, and we know that's not correct.

Can't get much closer:
Michelin HX MXM4
235/45R17
Diameter 25.6"

Pilot Sport PS2
245/45-17
Diameter 25.7"

Might want to check the specs just to verify.
It's a far better solution then starting off with an aftermarket 235/45 tire that is only 25.3".

Time for some breakfast then on to better topics.

Lol. You always refer to breakfast when you're mad.

Not mad, I'm hypoglycemic so I need to have something every couple of hours.
Maybe a snack would be a better term as I already had breakfast at 7AM.

I'm so lost! So all 235/45/17 are not all 25.63 inches tall?

There are variances from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you have a 235/45 and 245/45 and they're spec'd as the same diamter, either the specs are wrong or the label is wrong. I can't remember if they measure only the sidewall or if the tread is included and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm about to purchase new tires and it'll be nice to know that 235mm is just a suggestion. I noticed that my Blizzaks always looked a lot more stretched than other tires.
