Tire PSI Question

I just took my 07 TLs to the dealer for it's first oil change and tire rotation. I noticed that they inflated the front tires to 40 psi and the rear 35. Is this normal? The one thing that I can say is the the car is riding really smooth, but was concerned for the tires.

Thanks!!

I hope you looked at them before you started rolling, they might have given you 35 front 32 rear but as soon as you started rolling they got warmed up, I am rolling on 18" I usually fill em up to 34 or 35 psi all the way around and they read 38 after a short drive

Are those cold pressures?

Measured by TPMS, stick guage or "good" guage?

Cold pressures on the TL-S should be 35 F / 32 R. I set mine about a pound high.

The TPMS is an approximate reading and not discrete enough (i.e., not 0.1 or 0.5 lbs) to be sure if you are at 36, 37 or 38 (for example).

I did notice my dealer set all four of my tires at 32. I wasn't satisfied with that.

By TPMS. They read 39/40 after I was driving for about 10 minutes. Maybe I should use a stick to see what that reads to see if the TPMS is accurate.

Thanks,

As stillhere153 posted, check the tires when they are cold- before you drive more than a mile. Otherwise, the tires heat up and psi readings become inconsistent.

The dealer may put a little more air in than the factory recommended PSI, but you'll be fine as long as the fronts are less than 40 psi; larger diameter wheels (like 18") also have a higher recommended pressure than the 17" wheels. The differential between the front and rear will minimize understeer.

FWIW, I run my '05 at 37F/33R or so, although recommended is 32F/R for the 5AT. Even wear on the Michelins so far at 30K; the damn things will likely last 50K.

the tire pressure should be always measured before driving.....the tire pressure (32psi) is standard.....

I have mine 36 all around.....rides damn smooth.....gets a lil bumpy but I get the acceleration that I want.....more than 36 could be dangerous.....as psi increases by 4-5 points after like 5 miles...

Read ur tire for the max your tire can handle and fill accordingly......

I hate it when I bring the car to the dealer and they take air out of the tires.
They forget that the tires are still warm from driving to the dealer.....
