For those with the Progress RSB

I have it and Im wondering which of the 2 holes you guys are using, the front or back one and what the difference is if any.....i installed suspension on the car yesterday and i looked on the passenger side.... the bracket that the link from the stabilizer bar mounts into snapped....it was either over torqued or just sheer dumb luck for that to happen....or I put it in the wrong hole ...... on the stabilizer

<-- the inner ones... I believe this is called the "track" setting. It just causes the bar to deflect less.

I believe the outer holes are referred to as the "street" setting. Not 100% on that though.

trip I've asked this question before and it's a mixed bag, but more people have the bar on the "firm" setting - the back holes - the ones that make the bar shortest.

You are at least the 3rd person to snap a mounting bracket. What bushings are you running - Progress supplied or Energy Suspension?

What snapped exactly (maybe it's different than the others)? Is it the weld/bracket at the sub-frame where the bushing D-brackets mount?

Like these:

^^^ DAMN....i heard of people snapping their endlinks but not the brackets....when i bought mine, mike asked if i wanted to get thicker endlinks but i passed on em cause i would think that you would have to damn near "TRACK" the car or "AUTO-X" pretty aggresively inored to snap anything....but anything can happen

BTW...i have my RSB set to TRACK or (FIRM) which are the set of holes towrds the rear of the car

I'm using Moog endlinks. Alot beefier but require greasing with a grease gun before you ride with 'em or you may damage them. I also have the Progress RSB set to "track."

Got my MOOG (for the '02; same part though) at Advance Auto as well. In your area could be Kragen or Shucks.

You add an upgraded RSB --> stress point shifts/changes --> you add upgraded bushing --> stress point shifts/changes again --> you add upgraded end-links --> stress point shift/changes again --> etc.

Eventually you might find a weak point that cannot handle the added stress. Will depend on how you drive, but there is *always* a weak link in the chain.

yea bear I think after all these years of playing with cars Ive figured that out... at some point you have to let it sit more than you drive it. hahaha

I put the end links on the track setting to the front....they were on the street setting before....it feels totally different....im dropping the car off tomorrow for an alignment....the brackets were replaced in 10 mins the one that broke just seemed to be the weakest link at that moment. i hope replacing both makes a difference.

Yeah, mine sits in the garage 6 of 7 days too. Just a Sunday drive once a week.

I just hope if I have an RSB related failure, it's the same part that failed you. The sub-frame bracket would be a minor PITA having to go and get it welded somewhere. At least yours is easy to replace.

I'll say it again......

Cornering hard does not put *that* much stress on the bar and mounting points.

Hitting driveways at an angle or potholes/speed bumps on only one of the rear tires puts way more stress on the bar. In this case it becomes a torsional spring. Hit a bump with both tires at the same time and it's like the bar is not there, it just pivots in it's mounts.

I would keep the standard endlinks. Would you rather replace an endlink or have to weld up your subframe?

Also, you're going to run into more swaybar failures in a stock suspension car than a stiffer suspension car.

Not even close. They do two separate things. One is a brace for the body. The other is part of the suspension and reduces body roll. For handling RSB is has 10X the effect.

The Moogs are $19.63 each from www.Rockauto.com

Thicker stabilizer bars put more strain on the end links. I have the Comptech 22mm bar and had to replace my links after 3 years.

Just installed my Progress RSB on Tuesday ... installed end link in the forward/front setting(softer). What a huge improvement over stock handling characteristics I might experiment and move it back to the rear hole just to see the difference. Dollar for dollar though, the RSB is a great bang for the buck and yields noticeable improvement

Just installed mine in the soft setting. Ride quality actually improved in some ways, especially hitting gutters at an angle. No more rocking and drama, it just goes over them without the side to side motion. On regular streets in a straight line it feels more stable, the steering is more precise, and there is absolutely no compromise with ride quality.

I may head to Pismo after work tomorrow and take the curvy route. An hour of high speed (80-100mph) curves should give me a good feel for the new bar and help me decide if the balance is ok in the soft setting or if I need to go up to the track setting. With my subs in the back, I have a feeling it's going to be plenty neutral already.

If I decide to go to the track setting, I'm going to wait until I get some Koni Sports for the rear too to reduce my chances of breaking the swaybar mounts.

And even though I shouldn't admit it, I first installed the bar backwards, spent an hour fighting it, and once I realized my mistake I flipped it and had it completed in less than 20 minutes without removing any wheels. It sucks working in the middle of the street with only a flashlight.

Just the front. I got a great deal on OEM rears and never got around to upgrading.

I was debating doing that for a while but decided to just empty the wallet on the yellows. Just curious though...how does the car drive/handle with them only on the front? What damper setting did you use?

It's a nice difference. It totally controls weight transfer on launch. Decreased understeer which is exactly the opposite I would've expected. Took away the floaty feeling at high speeds. I did the fronts first because they were actually worn and I've always felt that the stock front was underdamped while the rear was decent.

I believe they're just under 1.5 turns right now.

Still, it's always good to do all 4 but I was low on cash at the time and never got around to doing the rears but they're high on the list now.

OK so what is the verdict? Put it on the track setting and get the upgraded end links when ordering the Progress RSB ??? Or wait until they break? What should I do brothers? I will add a RSB when I get Tein SS coilovers installed and set about 1" lower/level then OEM.

I would leave the endlinks as the weak link. Would you rather break a link or a subframe bracket?
