Question Tein and Top Hats

Tein coilovers don't come with top hats. We are suppose to use OEM top hats. That means taking apart the OEM struts.

Just by sight, the OEM top hat seem a lot bigger, because the spring is bigger. Would that actually fit right? I'm sure it does. Does anyone have a pic of Teins particially done at this stage?

Are there aftermarket or OEM top hats that work with Teins?

I like to keep the OEM struts together, and not deal with spring compressors and taking things apart, etc, etc.

If top hats are worth the additional cost, than maybe I should consider another brand that comes with the top hats already on?

I just did mine last night. I saved 100$ by going to auto zone renting strut compressors... Just think about it. By the way with tein there is a spacer that comes between the spring and top hats for the front.

logic save 100$ for 5 minutes of extra work.

It should fit from what I know. Having had to use my oem top hats when I had teins on my accord, a popular thing that Marcus/Heeltoe offered was a tein coilover + oem top hat combination. The part is around $50 Im assuming. I would think most other companies that offer coils in the same price range as Teins have their own top hat. I know that Megans would not need your oem top hat, and it seems that several members are okay with it. Otherwise, you would have to pay a little extra to have oem top hats on your Teins, but that could be worth it for most people

What is this Spacer thing? Is that a good or bad thing compare to other systems?

Who is Marcus/Heeltoe?

The spacer hust centers the spribg with the top hat. Also makes the height for the nut on top of the top hat not bottom out. Which would be a bad thing if you dont use it. the spacer comes with the tein coils by the way.

I've been debating buying new tophats and what not as well... because I don't want to deal with a spring compressor and everything but its looking somewhat easy now that people are posting pics and videos of it. I guess I'll rent a spring compressor and not buy top hats if I end up doing this myself.

Yes, it's very easy to disassemble the stock shock assemblies. The spring compressors are easy to work with also.

Thanks for the heads up. I went ahead and ordered Tein coilovers last night so I will give it a try when they show up. Worst case I can always buy the top hat kit later.

Turns out spring compressors are like 30 bucks at advance auto...and even less after you put in promo codes... Worth a shot!
