suspension extras, think it's necessary?

alright i'm not even sure if this is thread worthy but i'll try and keep this short.

here we go...

got an 07 type-s, 40k miles, and am dying to put a drop on this car.

got some eibach pro kit 1" last week, and am going to put them on my stock shocks for now. i will be getting coils at the start of spring, but for now, this will have to do.

my question is, which parts of the suspension should i buy and replace while installing these springs? is it necessary to replace anything? or should i just throw these on and reuse the same suspension parts? bushings, washers, shock absorbers, dust covers, etc etc...

any input is appreciated, as i'll be doing this next sunday, followed by alignment monday. thanks guys.

I did the exact same thing with my 06 .. used all the stock parts. All ok .

BTW .. wait a bit for the alignment .. give the suspension a chance to settle in.

40k miles? she's still a baby! your stock shocks and all the pieces should not be that worn.
Reuse them baby!

On my cousin's car, we trimmed off 1/2" on the front bump stop. Instructions don't say to do this, but we did it anyways for the sake of suspension travel with his Koni's SP3. The Type-S Eibach springs come with new rear bump stops, so use those for the back (they're like half the length).

Everything else can be reused. It's a long operation if you're planning to do another swap in the spring time by the way. The Koni SP3/Eibach setup on the TL-S feel like a softer ride compared to my '05 A-Spec setup. Your ride comfort/handling will depend on the condition of your Type-S shocks.

thanks, wasn't sure if some of the rubber parts should be replaced or not. the springs are previously used, so they're pretty much settled. i think once i drop it, that's how it'll look.

as far as i know, the type-s shocks are fine. car rides beautifully right now. just got the itch to lower it, and snagged a decent deal on some used eibachs. i don't want to have to cut the bumpstops if i can help it.

all i have are the springs, nothing else came with them.

as far as the spring time swap, well i guess i'll see how these feel. i'll make my decision based on that.

in all of your humble opinions, do you think i'm going to hate myself for putting springs on my stock shocks? or should i be alright until i decide to upgrade next year? i don't drive very much, 5 mins to work 5 mins back, and going out on weekends i'll drive plenty more. thanks guys.

a couple of weekends ago, I hosted and helped(kinda, I drank the beer) install some H&R springs on stock shocks. After we were completed, I took it around the block, WAY less body roll!

He bought brand new OEM shocks and paired it with the H&R's. We had a shop compress the springs to take off the top hat. He also compressed and transferred the top hat to the "lowered" set.

We started early, I think TLDude got to my house at like 730am and we finished around 5-6pm.

^very cool, yeah i figured it'd be an all day event for me and my buddy when we do this.

i'll probably end up just re-using the parts i have, since i'm only at 40k on these oem shocks.

if anyone else has anymore advice for me, i'm all ears. thanks to those who have helped put my mind at ease thus far.

I recommend not cutting any bump stops

The only thing you should have off the car after you do the swap is the OEM springs

You are fully okay to use everything that is on your car now. my car has 70k and I re used everything! Its a super easy job you just have to take your time. I did mine in about 2 hrs. you will have to pull your back seat out to get to the back shock body mounts. just a heads up, it supprised me when i did mine... poor design!

Absolutely. I reused all of my stuff and I put my springs on my car when it had almost 100k miles.

As said above, wait on the alignment. Or atleast do another after two weeks. It needs time and travel to fully settle.

We were goofing off most of the time plus we ended up driving around looking for places to swap top-hats when we couldn't figure out how to work the lame compressor from autozone.

good enough for me.

install is set for next sunday, and since the springs are previously used, i may do an alignment the next day or just wait a few days.

anyone whos interested, my progress thread will be updated shortly thereafter. i've been busy, but everything is coming along real nice. patience is a virtue.
