suggestions on winter tires??
Anybody have suggestions for good winter tires to put on my stock 99 rims?? Should I stick with the stock size or should I go wider?? Thanks.

Definately not wider, if anything, winter tires should be narrower as a wider tire behaves like a ski on snow.
The choice of tire depends really on where you live and the type of conditions you expect to encounter.
If you live in a place where the winter's are short and there's not much snow, you're more likely to encounter either slush or cold hard roads. In that case I recommend:
1. Yokohama Guardex
2. Michelin Arctic Alpin or Pilot Alpin
3. Nokian NRW
4. Any H rated snow tire (Dunlop, Pirelli)
If you will encounter a lot of deep snow then you need a tire with a more aggressive tread like:
1. Blizzaks
2. Graspics
3. Nokian Hakka 1
If you're going to get a second set of wheels or rims then definately downsize to 16" because it will be cheaper and you need more rubber in order for the tire to clear snow from the tread.

Hey BayStreetBoy, do you actuallly work on Bay street?
I would definately suggest 16". Wheel and Tire prices go up dramatically when you go from 16 to 17".
Andrew at wheel and tire zone in mississauga quoted me about $1300 for four Mille Miglia wheels (5 spoke) and Yokohama Guardex in 16" which I think are ideal for Toronto winters.
(I have the Guardex on my A4 and I love them).
I think some people go with 17" because they pick new wheels for summer and use their stock wheels for winter.

I've got the Blizzak MZ-01's and think they're great. They haven't seen much snow but they grip good on icy mornings. Using 215/55-16 on the stock rims. Here's a link to a comparison test from Tire Rack.
