Question studded vs studless

I was considering buying the General Altimax Arctic for winter tires. However, I saw that they were "studdable winter snow."

Will they work just as well if I DON'T "stud" them? Are people's reviews, etc done WITH studs or without?

Thanks

Check your state and local laws, in some places studded tires are illegal and can get you a nice fat ticket.

Most people who run snow tires don't use studs anymore.

So can I safely assume that the good reviews for these tire are without studs? Or are the reviews for the tires with studs?

Without.

As mentioned, using studs is illegal in most places. Studded tires are usually used in rural, mountainous areas where plowing isn't as regular as in urban areas. Studs tear up ashphalt. I really don't see the need for them 99.9% of the time.
