Stripped sway bar end link (allen key insert).. is it safe to drive?

So I was in the process of trying to replace the rear struts on my 2005 TL and in the process of trying to disconnect the sway bar end link, I managed to strip the allen wrench insert.

I managed to get the nut about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way off before the allen wrench insert stripped. After doing a little research I have discovered is extremely common (stupid design).

I know my best option is probably to cut the nut and bolt off and replace the end links right now, but that's not an option. I don't have the parts or the tools at this exact moment.

My question; is it safe to drive with this end link loose? The nut is still 2/3 to 3/4 of the way on. We are planning on going out of town this weekend (8 hour drive each way), will it be ok to drive this distance with a loose end link (and bad rear struts)?

Not sure about your strut situation, but the sway bar should not be to terrible of an issue. avoid uneven transitions/steep driveway approach on angles. Are you going to be fully loaded?

Thanks for the reply. Not fully loaded, just a light weekend trip to see the inlaws. I'm going to see if any place around here has the end links in stock and if so I'll probably try to swap out the end links and the struts before we have to leave, but I'm not sure if I'll have time.

with the fastener unloaded, the (joint pin) threaded portion is bearing the brunt of all that flexing. It might be ok, but I personally wouldn't plan a trip with it like that. you can order the moog links from amazon and pay a little extra for overnight shipping

if your sway bar is disconnected, it will be fine.
just drive easy with no hard turns.

you'll find the back end wants to shimmy, but drive slow and be careful.
