Strapping TPMS Sensors on the Barrel

So it's time for me to purchase some new shoes and since I have an '06, I've been reading some interesting threads on TPMS sensors.

The '06+ TLs are limited on wheel choice because the sensors usually fit within wheels that are one-piece. An interesting workaround to get the TPMS sensors to work with multi-piece wheels is to strap the sensor on the inside barrel.

This is taken from one of Kennedy's posts in this thread: New wheels and the tire pressure monitoring system

These TPMS banding and brackets can be ordered from Discount Tire Direct for roughly $40.

What I would like to know is (for those that use them):
1) Are there any long term side effects in using these?
2) How reliable/accurate are they in detecting tire pressure?
3) Any other issues/concerns someone (like me) planning to get a multi-piece wheel should know/be worried about?

Comments? Thanks in advanced all.

1) I strapped these on $700 per wheel Volks... I have no long term conerns.
2) They have no impact on the accuracy of the sensor, they work the same way.
3) What wheel are you getting? You may not need em... Not all multipiece wheels need them

Also, did you see I forged offers a valve stem based mount for TPMS sesors... about 3X the price, but worht considering.

Thanks Kennedy for the response.

I've been looking at the Racing Hart R5 Pro. According to the vendor, I need to use the straps.

Yes, I saw your post about the Iforged stems last night. Seems like they're too new at the moment and there hasn't been any confirmation about whether they work on non-Iforged wheels.

At this point, its either go with the straps or go with another wheel.

Strap em on dude. It's NBD. The 350Z guys LOVE deep dish volks, and the Z has had sensors since 2003. Thousand of go fast Z boys can't be wrong.

Dig through all those posts from JD TL-S, I break it down many different ways for him. Disount tire direct sells AND installs the straps into customer wheels at thier brick and mortar store.

I used your name as a search criterea for datmrman to use as I spent an INORDINATE amount of time explaining the TPMS strapping solution to you, and have many great informational posts in them.

Go seek wheel advice on the Civic forums...

You two both need to cool it IMHO. I got the jist of your opinions on this strap debate in the other thread: Volk GT-S or Work Varianza T1S. Just agree that you will disagree on this topic and move on.

Anyway, thanks for your comments.

Just for future reference, here is a post made by Kennedy showing how widely used these straps are.
