Stock Tires

I'm new to the forum (well, new to posting, but I've been reading) and was wondering how many miles did your stock tires have before the dealer or anyone start recommending to get new tires? My TL came with the crappy Turanza's and I only have ~18K miles on them...and I'm disappointed (but not surprised)...

the el42's (the tires you got) are the worst tires ever made. many members who have had these tires have hated them. Some members got the el42's wore down at 10k. Some good replacements are the pirelli p-zero Nero, the falken Ziex 512E or the toyos.

The shit tires on my 04 TL (auto) wore down to the nub after 17.5k miles, I asked about the treadware warranty that comes with the car, they told me that I would have to talk to Firestone about it. I went to firestone and they told me that there is no treadware warranty on OEM tires. jackass.

I since upgraded to the 05 navi with the mich. tires, I have 31k miles, and the dealer just recommended that I get the tires replaced.

Not sure which tires I'm going for tho

My 04, 6 speed had 26,500 on the EL42’s before the dealer said that I will probably need new rubber. After looking and comparing I finally settled on stock size Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and I couldn’t be happier.

After 1,000 miles they are everything the Turanza’s weren’t. They are quiet with a barely noticeable road noise that is actually rather pleasant compared to the old boomers. I get slightly better gas mileage probably because they are a little taller. The dry and wet grip is truly amazing. Get the hint?

The only downside is price $1,150 otd with unlimited 4 wheel alignment, balance and rotation, but what the hell.

Great tires are the single best suspention change you can make. I recommend Michelin Pilot Sports.

thank you for all your comments and suggestions...after looking into some tires and the info provided in tirerack, i'm looking into the following tires: kumho ecsta asx, pirelli pzero nero m&s, or of course the michellin pilot sport a/s (listed in terms of price, from cheapest to the not-so cheap). the kumho has some good reviews/ratings in tirerack and is not as expensive in comparison to the other two i noted, so i was wondering these are as good as the others. the ratings are pretty comparable to the pzero nero and pilot a/s.

also, i spoke with my dealer the last time i was there and they also referred to me to bridgestone and said if they were going to get involved, the replacement tires would be given at discount, of course. i thought it a load of crap. discount??? i wouldn't get the same tires if they were to give them to me for cheap!

As an aside, I was also looking for the Nero’s but there were none available in the area where I live so the Pilots won out. BTW, I personally don’t like buying tires from the internet because I just don’t have time for the hassle of dealing with delivery, mounting and possible warranty issues. But if you have the time e-places like Tire Rack might save you some big bucks.

Anyone know anything about the Falken Ziex - ZE 512? They are cheap and came in #1 in CR tests. Normally I wouldn't stray from Pirelli or Mich., but I was wondering if anyone had any exp with these

I heard the sidewalls are a little weak. If someone sells them locally you might want to physically lean on them to see how they stand up.
