A-Spec Wheels De-laminating

After 6 years I've notice that my A-Spec wheels are peeling and delaminating. First noticed it 2+ years ago, contacted Acura and they wouldn't do anything about it. I still think the wheels look great, but am starting to look into options to have them re-finished or re-chromed.

Has anyone else had this happen and refinished their wheels? Approximate cost?? Not having much luck finding a shop in Massachusetts that will do this.

Suggestions.... thank you.

Do you have paint bubbling?

CLtotheTL32 got his A-Spec wheels powdercoated.

No bubbliing, just peeling and delaminating, from the high gloss finish to a very dark grey/black.

powdercoat is the way to go - not too sure the prices in the states but in toronto there's shops that will do 50$ per rim an colour you choose. i will be going this route this summer for my aftermarket wheels for a new look

If you have a wheels America near you, I'd highly recommend them. They've always done great work for me.

My Gunmetal A-Specs started doing that years ago. The paint would fade and eventually flake off. I had them sandblasted and powdercoated nearly 4 years ago and they still look brand new.

Definitely powder coat them. I called a bunch of local shops and the cheapest I could find was $80 per wheel for my 18x8 aspecs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am searching for shops in the area that do powder coating.
Surprised to find several wheel repair and refinishing vans that will drive to your location. Has anyone else come across this? Doesn't strike me as they type of thing that can be done effectively from a van?

Stay away from the mobile guys... they will probably just come, and spray paint the wheels while still on the car. Its a quick fix for someone who doesn't care... but definitely not quality work.

$50 per wheels in Toronto? Fuck... Here in south florida it cost $600 for all the four wheels. My aspec wheels is ugly and the painting is really bad condition and I'm happy to pay for $300 for all the four wheels. I'm thinking to buy it brand new or really good condition aspec wheels in craigslist.

A Spec

Hi,
I was wondering where you purchased the A Spec wheels? I live in Ma. also and have stock TLS wheels painted black to match the color of the car. After the winter I'm going to have them power coated and use them for winter snows only.
I'm looking to change the look of my car for the summer, thanks. Bill C.

Hello Bill! I found my A-Spec wheels on Craigslist. You could contact your local Acura dealership but you'll be paying full retail. You can also check the Acurazine Marketplace to see if any members are selling A-Specs.

I bought my ASPECS from a dealer that was advertising on this site, I think from Nevada, back when my car was new. At the time cost was less than half of what my local dealer, Herb Connolly (who SUCK btw) was quoting.
ASPECS are way better than the standard waffle wheels that came stock with the TLS... great improvement to the look of the car.

Probably just a personal preference. I like the more traditional look of the ASpecs.
