There gonna look just like you fear. But if you are intelligent enough to realize that snow tires worth it then you will "get over it" that your car might look a bit "off" for a few months. Since I have the MT and there are no steels for it I had to spring for cheapo alloys to mount my snows. All my cars in the past had POS (plain old steel) in the winter. I see plenty of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Saab, etc.. with bare steelies in the winter. No big thing. Those who know, know and those who think it looks silly are unaware. Why should you care anyway. Steelies look way better than a crumpled fender cause you slipped off the road.
Unfortunately most of the cheap alloys in 17" at TireRack have been snapped up by now. They may still have some 16" packages that aren't to steep. I know this isn't what you want to see but this is what I'll be wearing this winter . After twenty years of other cars with bare steelies I think I deserved it.
Go with your instincts...they're right.

Where abouts do you live in Ottawa? Do you deal with Camco or Casino Acura? I take it you have the 17" tires and rims on your TL? What color is your TL?

Yes they are painted Black, brand new can be purchase for $50CDN each(This is the price I paid a month ago from Acura Plus in Blainville, Quebec.

16" steel
I just called my dealer and they said the steel rims are 5-spoke and silver in colour. I have to see these ones....
They quoted me $1250 installed with taxes for Michelin Pilot Alpines 225/55/16
What do you guys think?
I won't be able to go till next week, but if I see them I'll take pics.

This is quite expensive and has to do with the tire size that your dealer is proposing.
I was not aware that they had silver 5 spoke steel rims as it was never mentioned by my local parts Manager.
Here are the part numbers for the Black Steel Rims:
ACU 42700-SBD-A91 Paid $50 each (New Rims)
With the Nokian Hakkapelitta RSI 205/60-16 ($159 each) that the Acura dealer special ordered for me, the total price came to $973.12 mounted & balanced & all taxes included.
First impression after being in your area a week ago this past Friday, driving back in the snow, great traction even on the icy left lane of HWY 401 East heading to Montreal.
I have selected a 205/60-16 because it is narrower then the 55 series, provide better grip in wet snow/icy road condition. This tire size introduce a speedo error of approx. 1.3Km/H at 100 Km/H. One major advantage that I did not calculate was that I saved $230(Taxes included) over the selection of 215/55-16 that my dealer was proposing.
By the way, Why are they suggesting 225/55-16? The 215/55-16 would be more appropriate since they are the same diameter the the 4 season tires that te car came with (25.3 inches Overall Diameter).
Best regards

Last year I paid $1040 CDN for my 16" black steel rims and 215/55R16 Michelin Pilot Alpines....this included taxes and installation. I have heard that there is a 5 spoke silver steel rim available from some tire dealers that looks better than the plain black steelie....but I have yet to see it. I heard that it was more expensive than the black one as well.

I really like Adobeman's rims for winter, if I didn't have any I would get them or Pogo's ... they are both priced right for winter rims.
I use the OEM 17" rims with Dunlop M3s (235) for the winter and the Aspec 18" rims with PZero Nero 245s for the spring-fall. Those steels look ...well, not so good to me.
In Germany you see the steel wheels with winter tires often on the top BMWs and Benzes ... you just store the tires at the shop and switch them at the end of the season. If you get snow - you want tires designed for it.
I just love zipping past the "all-season" crowd.

I can't wait until the snow comes . Once it starts the road crews will spread heaps of road salt and sand that will eventually turn into a big mess that will be flung into the air by passing traffic where it will turn into a very fine mist which in turn will fall back to earth landing on everything in sight. It’s not a pretty picture; everything turns salty grey in colour . Heck, I’m really starting to love those steel rims.

If you feel your rims look better on a ballet dancer than mine.....great! I like the black steel rim much better and that is why I bought them. Besides...neither compare to my 18" rims and why would you have chosen a camel interior? I have seen plenty of them and they wear nasty!
Have a nice day!
