snow tires - 2006 TL

I am a new owner of a 2006 TL. It has 4 Sumitomo HTR+ 235/457ZR 17 all season radials. live in Mass and expect a bit of snow. Does anyone have any experience with the 06 TL in snow - do I need snow tires?

There is no substitute for a dedicated winter tire in the snow, I run the General Altimax Arctic tires on my car and its amazing in the snow.

As stated above, there is no substitute for a dedicated snow tire, but and all season tire, depending on the tread design/manufacturer will get you by, but sorry to say, the Sumitomo HTR+ is not one of them, as they do a poor job in wintry conditions. Most UHP tires give up the snow/ice traction in favor of the speed rating that requires a smoother tread design, and even with the heavy front end (FWD), it can be a challenge to conquer severe weather conditions.

You don't really need the TPMS sensors if $$ are an issue ... just reset the notification once a trip. No biggie.

Yes. (Wide tires) + (high power to weight ratio) = (crappy snow performance)

I don't live in a snow area, but I would think if I did, I'd need snow tires.......

Snows tires make all the difference in the world. If your car has a manual transmission or is a type S you will need 17" wheels to fit over the Brembo brakes.

For non Brembo brakes you have more choices and cheap, not much of a choice over Brembo brakes, I paid over $1300 for a set.

get snows! i picked up the X-ice Xi2s last year and have been very happy. i opted for 17" wheels that look like base stock rims, i have the Aspecs for the other months, and cant compain one bit. They have a better tread life over many others and have really good snow/ice reviews.

I live in NY...and have an 2005 TL (auto). I upgraded the stock tires a while back to the Bridgestone Potenza RE960's (was a high rated all season tire at the time).

After slipping and sliding in the last storm in the north east...I definitely want to upgrade to snow tires. Just not sure what is the best bang for the buck.

Anyone driving on the Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 tires? They are going for $148/each on tirerack (for the stock size 235/45/R17).

Also, what is the cheapest rim I could throw on the car for these snow tires (cheapest ones on tirerack were $85 piece)? Or is it worth it to use simple steel rims with some hub caps for this set of tires? Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place, but I didn't see where I could buy cheap steel rims on that site...
