Should I change the tire?
Hello,
I was driving from work to get home and on my way I hit a huge pat hole. By huge, I mean my wheel got scratched and here is my question. The tire now, where the rim protection is, I can stick my finger nail in about 1/4 of it. The tire is 19" 245/35 and it is the Toyo Proxes 4. Should I buy new tire due to it might blow or I'm OK with it?

the tire shop can make sure the rim is not damaged- bent- and tell you if the tire is cosmetic or real damage
Without pics- we cant even guess-
unless you just want someone to say: buy a rim and tire and get an alignment- have the steering rack checked and all the suspension too

Well,
the rim I know it will be repaired but the tire I'm not sure if it is OK. See, it is about 1/4 of the finger nail that is going in and it is on the rim protection. About the suspension, I heard no strange noises or anything that might catch my attention.

the tire place is your best bet for an informed guess
How are we to know the depth of your fingernail, the angle of the cut-
there is too much to guess- see a pro in person

Yeah, I agree with you. I was about half way from home when I hit the pat hole and the tire did not loose any air. So my guess is that the tire might be ok but as you said I should let a pro see the tire. The reason is that I don't want to drive the car with the spare tire to much. I need my car to go to work and I will be with the spare tire while the rim is being refinished.

Haha, I was gonna post something like this, Same thing happened to me yesterday. just a small chip on the rim, but the tire another story.. Got a cut/gash about 2 inches long and I stuck a toothpick in there and slid in about 1/3 of an inch or so. Took it in and they ordering me a new tire. Shit better be here tomm!!!... I hate having a tire, that has to be "ordered" cuz NOBODY in town has it.

next time get general exclaim uhp tires~
or keep a matching spare rim and tire set ready for use.
I have to do that for track days- actually one for each side- directional tires
a flat ends your fun, a spare that is the same means 5 minutes and back out for more fun!
