Question Shelf life of suspension struts

How long could a brand new in box strut last if it was never installed and is stored in a house?

I have a chance to buy brand new struts that have been sitting for a couple years (never installed, new in box) in a house.

If you think the shelf life is short, what do you think the manufacturers do when they keep inventory?

I can't forsee any problem. You never know the production date of replacement parts when they are purchased. They last for years when on vehicles, so laying in a house isn't going to cause them to go bad or leak any quicker. I'm certain Acura replacement part aren't maufactured every year, so they will have a production run then sit for years.

Born-on date don't matter. Shocks will last as long as you need them to uninstalled.

There is no expiration date. As long as someone didn't mark up the shaft or damage the seal the shocks/struts will be fine.
