I know many of you guys have installed comptech 22mm rear sawy bar. I have an AT and was thinking that 17mm to 22mm might be too big a jump and wanted to try out the 6MT's 20mm sway bar. Has anyone done this? Plase advise....is this a good idea?

 

but, maybe you could get someone's 6MT swaybar... if so, post info in Black market...

I don't see how it can hurt by going 22 over 20? I bought the Neuspeed 25mm one before they discontiuned it.

The rear doesn't kick out as much around the turns, ride is not compromised too much.

 

Maybe those that have changed from 20 mm to 22mm wants to sell it to you?

 

The ride from switching to the 22mm is not compromised at all! It only helps in handling because the sway bar holds the suspension together, causing one end to "lose" traction in sharper turns, allowing you to get your car around the bend faster.

Yes, it can be bad - hence the increased possibility that you'll swing the rear end around. However, the car still has a pretty large amount of understeer due to its FWD platform and front sway bar that the thicker rear sway bar essentially balances it out.

 

Lore is absolutely right. The TL will plow like a pig when pushed due to it's FWD characteristics. The CT bar still allows it to plow but much less. Trust me, I have pushed my TL to about 8/10s and it's still very stable. In fact, the 22mm bar should in theory make your car handle better in terms of neutality as compared to a factory 6MT TL. But do what you feel is right. I have the Comptech bar and I love it each and everyday. Plenty of folks here seem to agree. Good luck and keep us posted.

I had the same thoughts, but figured if people were upgrading to the 22mm in the first place. Then why do half the job, the CT is only about $50 more than a used bar. For the amount of years/miles you plan on driving the car, It was a no brainer, at least for me anyway.

If you are a real tight wad. You can remove it when you sell the car, and recoop
another $50 I bet. Provided you keep your original.

I finished doing the install a couple of hours ago. The install took about 1hr at most.

There is a noticeable difference from driving with the stock 20MM and that of the 22MM. There is less body roll and definitely the turns are tighter. On the "S" turns, the car feels more controlled and I was able to accelerate out of the turns so much faster than before.

I give this mod an A+ and a definite must have.

My current suspension setup is now TEIN BASIC, SPC Camber F/R, and Comptech Sway.

I purchased the sway bar on ebay from Acura Escondido. Best price and fastest shipping.

I can't... I have a class that morning. Really wanted too as well... to show off my A-Spec suspension when I get it installed this weekend.

 

Increasing the size of the rear sway reduces understeer. If you find it too much, then you can always bias the tire pressures to the rear to offset the effect.

Conversely, you can duplicate some of the larger sway bars effect by increasing the front tire pressure relative to the rear. The stock settings for the MT are 35 front / 32 rear.

I too am considering installing a large sway bar. This car is just too skittish as is. A couple of questions:

a. What is the diameter of the stock rear S-bar?
b. What is the recommended up grade size, keeping in mind a compromise between ride and handling.
c. How many of you guys install your own? Does it involve removing anything other than the original S-bar? Or is it recommended to have a garage do the job?
d. Is there any re-alignment (camber/castor) of the rear suspension necessary?
e. What is a good price to pay? Comptech seems to be a name mention on the forum.

Anyone have any answers would be appreciated - I'm flying blind here. thanks

 

A. Stock ASB: 6MT - 20mm and 5AT - 17mm. The CT ASB is 22mm.
B. No compromise on ride, decrease bodyroll
C. DIY - Do a search for it and save some cash. Not that difficult.
D. Alignment not necessary
E. Previously mentioned in posts; Acura Escondido and Falconi's (LV) or check EBay for best prices.

Thanks much. I did some more searching here and pretty much came to your conclusions. Sounds like a no brainer upgrade. Makes you kind of wonder why Acura didn't do this in the first place. Perhaps just to sell the A-spec kit? Or to soften the ride just a bit. (Although everyone keeps saying it doesn't compromise the ride any.) But then young butts are less senstive than my older butt.

 

does anybody know what the auto's stock front bar is ? the 6sp is 27.2 just trying to see if it is worth it to change as I have ordered comptech rear bar

 

Front Stabilizer bar is 25.4 x 4.5 mm, the front tower bar is 45 mm.

 

Are there rear sway bars > 22mm available for the 6MT? Wouldn't a slightly larger bar be better for this car??
