Sachs vs KYB GR-2 for OEM replacment?
Hey guys,
Thinking of replacing my shocks on my 06 TL as I now have almost 80k on them and the ride has severely deteriorated over the last 20k miles with the crazy potholes we have here in the Northeast. Autozone carries SACHS oem shock replacement for our cars, the fronts run 78$ and rear 119$ the KYB on rockauto are similarly priced but the rears come in at 79$ vs the 119$ premium for Sachs,
From what I know SACHS is an OEM euro supplier for dampers on BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the 2013+ Nissan Altima's also uses SACHS dampers and they are damn proud of advertising it as well. I'm thinking this might be nice upgrade over the OEM SHOWA shocks. I'm a bit skeptical since, I put KYBs in my 2ns gen before I had a drop and I felt there they were too stiff and still felt road imperfections.
Car is a daily driver, not looking to go A-spec or Koni just want a nice OEM replacement to the factory shocks. Anyone have any input on the SACHS?
Also what are you guys changing out when changing shocks? bump-stops? coil insulators? top hats?

Burning Brakes
ill be doing this as well, after NEXT winter...
interesting to see what people post, b/c i assume most people here don't replace their dampers for OEM-like replacements
most go for coilovers or koni yellow/spring combos...

Remember that although Sachs shocks/struts are installed on many new vehicles, the shock/strut is engineered specifically for each application. Aftermarkets are generic, meaning they aren't for only the TL, but the fronts are for the TL '04-'08, TSX '04-'08, and Accord '97-'08, and rears are for the TL and Accord.
Having said that, I'd say one is just as good as the other with the only discerning difference, ride quality, and that hopefully with be found if someone has installed the shocks and relates their experience.
I also had KYB's on one of my cars years ago and it rode like a stagecoach, never would I have them again.
Just wanted to add, 80k miles is not a great amount of miles on the shocks, so make certain they are kaput before spending money on the unit, then the cost to have them installed.

Three Wheelin'
Chances are, you probably just need new compliance bushings and sway bar bushings. Have it looked at before you buy.

Sachs vsw. KYB
I have used KYB shocks on everything for over 20 years and now need to replace my first one. Thank God they have a lifetime warranty from an authorized dealer. The Sach shocks don't. I just had to buy my first set of Sachs as KYB doesn't make them for my wife's car. Good luck.
