Rust (or brake dust) on the rim of the wheels..

There is a lots of rust on the rear wheel of my acura Tl 2007. I changed the braked pads and the rotors. And they did clean all the wheels. After i came home driving like 5-6 miles, my rear wheel is fully covered in rust again, though the front wheels are much better!

Rather than looks, i am worried about the car. When i look through the rims, it seems to be fully rusted everything underneath the car.. It's 150k mileage already!

Is the car in "very" bad shape or it's somewhat expected?
Is there any way to sow down the deterioration?

the "dust" on the wheel itself is a by product of brake pads clamping on the steel rotor. Friction is what is used to stop your car.
the pad material comes off as dust and will coat your rims every time you stop.
the only way to alleviate this issue is to change brake pads to a different kind of pad.
I use a ceramic brake pad and the dust that comes off is white, so you cant see it as much.

the rust on your rotor hub/hat is UNAVOIDABLE.
steel will oxidize and rust.
Most brake rotors come with that hub painted black, preventing it from rusting.

you can take the wheel off, mask the face of the brake rotor with tape or newspaper, and rattle can or spray paint the hub black.

Brake dust. Nothing to be worried about. Be careful with brake dust cleaners. Some are very aggressive. The best I've had experience with and is safe for all finishes is sonax full effect wheel cleaner. You can also try Iron X.

That amount of brake dust is not normal for 5-6 miles.

After reading this and also your other thread, I'm convinced either you're a really bad troll, or just not relaying proper information.

the one thing ive learned on acurazine is to distinguish a troll from some one who genuinely needs/wants help.
the OP genuinely needs/wants help.

now, if you're 19/20 and in college and have access to the internet on the daily, there is no reason not to be proficient at forums/cars.

How could 5-6 miles of driving create that much brake dust?

we dont know the composition of the pads he has on.
we also dont know how true 5-6 miles is.

if he is like me or any other human, we tend to exaggerate, or lie without even knowing it.

I am quick to call a motherfucker out, but in this case, I dont think the OP is trolling.
he/she just generally doesnt know about cars.

p.s. my rears dust faster than my front

that much dust in 5-6 miles is very possible if you track the car

Sorry for the confusion guys. I am Definitely not trolling. This image is recent but the post content was old.

my story is the rims were always such covered or more. Then i had brake pads and rotor change (rear as in the picture). The mechanic told that they used ceramic ones for white dust as justnspace pointed out. So when replacing the rotos+brakes they little cleaned the rims (rubbed with a cloth or so may be). But when i came home like 10 miles (not exaggerated) the rims were again covered similar to the condition the picture depicts.

because its hard to diagnose things over the internet, did your mechanic say the calipers were dragging/sticking?

the dust looks normal to me! but then again, i dont daily drive..

because of friction, and the way the pads clamp down on the rotor, you will always get dust.
what the other folks dont find normal is the amount of time it has happened.

maybe, Maybe the calipers are sticking, causing it to slightly sit against the rotor causing the dust in such little time.

but who knows, as we cant inspect your car over the internet

May be the calipers are sticking. I also noticed one thing. There comes some burning smell (sort of )from the rear tyres after a long drive like >50 miles or so. and the rotor is not only just hot but turns reddish.

Just jack up each corner and see if the wheels turn freely.
