Which RSB to go with?

07 tl-s, want to get a RSB.

there's a comptech RSB that i can get http://www.racingambitions.com/Produ...torysingle=YES

then there's excelarate's progress RSB http://store.excelerateperformance.c.../i-225595.aspx

i can get the comptech for around $70 shipped, or i can get the progress for $135 plus shipping.

i know the progress is 24mm and the comptech is 22mm, i believe they are both adjustable.

anything else i'm missing? anyone else have any opinions on this? what should i go with and why? how do these differ from the type-s stock bar?

thanks everyone

yeah i know the progress is where it's at, just wondering if i can save myself $70 and get the comptech expecting similar results. i don't track my car or anything but i do push it sometimes.

$70 is $70 no matter how you look at it, just trying to save money obviously.

I think with whatever route you go, you'll get the improvement that you're looking for.

Im looking for some of I hate cars articles on rear sway bars....

know the progress is 24mm and the comptech is 22mm, i believe they are both adjustable.

anything else i'm missing? anyone else have any opinions on this? what should i go with and why? how do these differ from the type-s stock bar?

TL-S got a 27mm solid bar. 20mm rear.

I have the H&R solid 28mm bar, stiffer than it's size would indicate likely due to the material used. It's in the soft setting and I could not imagine how stiff it would be in the firm setting. It's already too much bar for the Progress rear in the firm setting.

hmm...wonder how much difference 2mm will make, depending on the construction of the type-s rear n the comptech rear.

is 2mm worth $70?

I'm not sure if the Comptech is adjustable or not; I'm thinking not.

Tough choice. At a similar price/smaller differnce, it'd be Progress no question.

I'm a fan of the PRogress bar, but only because that's what I've got. But IF you do get most of the gain and save $70 .... .

I assume the Comptech bar is used; make sure it comes with good bushings, good brackets and all the hardware. If you have to buy that, you'll end up at more like $100.

If you buy the Comptech, you're paying $70. For 2mm.

you're right, it's not adjustable. just found that out. the comptech is not used, just getting it at a cheap price from someone who bought it n never used it. its NIB.

true...

i'll stop pinching pennies so hard n just go with the progress. i like the adjustability, 24mm, and rave reviews i've read.

I think you can set the Progress Bar up for 3 settings. Soft, medium and firm (or whatever you want to call them).

To get "medium", on one side use the "long/soft" hole and on the other use the "short/firm" hole. I'm sure I've read Josh (Excellerate) post this - but you can double check with him to make sure I'm not giving bad info.

np will do.

my progress thread in the photo section needs to be updated badly, i have been doing stuff each weekend and have some updates to that thread that i'll end up adding in a few weeks once everything is done.

then i plan on relaxing thru the fall n winter n saving up for coilovers for spring.

**EDIT: really good to know bearcat, thanks!**

Ahhh, but he went from 17mm --> 22mm.

You'll go from 20mm --> 22mm OR 20mm --> 24mm

I have a progress RSB on and I definitely notice a big difference around turns. In normal driving it's not that noticeable but if you start pushing it in curves you'll be surprised at how big a difference it made.

Just an FYI, you may want to upgrade your endlinks too. I replaced mine with the thicker Moog endlinks at the same time. I got them for around $50 for both on amazon.

edit: oh and I have mine on the firmer setting.

True. Sorry...I overlooked the fact that you have a Type-S.

2mm is a lot in swaybar stiffness. It is noticable. I did the math a long time ago but going from my 17mm to the 24mm was in the neighborhood of 500% stiffer.

Going from the front hollow 25mm to the solid 28mm was an even larger difference. I don't know that I'm sold on it. There's a very steep entrance to the parking lot at work and since I've installed the large front bar, my ABS goes off every time I enter because it tries to lift the inside tire off the ground.

Either bar will work fine with the type S. I wish I would've measured the distance from the holes to the mounting brackets on my Progress bar. I'm not sure if the soft setting or firm setting gives you the true 24mm. For all I know, the soft setting may position the end links farther from the mounting brackets giving you the equivalent of a 22-23mm bar and the firm setting gives you the true 24mm equivalent.

^thanks, IHC.

so either one is appropriate? you say 2mm is a huge difference, maybe i wouldn't even put it at the 24mm, being that it could be too stiff for my liking.

in which case, the 22mm comptech would probably be perfect and i'd save 70$ in the process.

although i'd hate to get the comptech, install it, and wish it was stiffer but not be able to do anything about it.

i'll have to think about this over the next few days.

22mm will definitely be an improvement over stock but the 24mm Progress bar is a significant improvement over the CT-E bar and it is adjustable.

When I was checking out HT's newest suspension I saw an option to add a 25mm HT-Spec bar.... just saying, maybe something new is coming out and will provide yet another option.

Good thread and alot of good info! Owning a type-s myself, I would personally spend the extra $70 knowing it has adjustable settings...guess its kinda like coilovers over just springs....$300 or $1K+.....to a certain extent...lol

Heard somes things on the CT sway bar breaking the mounts on the car because the bar is so much thicker than the A/T. Is there truth to this statement? I have an A/T and want to upgrade to the CT bar but am worried about breaking mounts

I'd say dish out the extra $70 and get the Progress. What's $70 on a $40k+ car? I'm definitely going for the Progress bar at the same time as the Tein SS and Ingals camber kit. (Save on the shipping, not the parts )

It's not about price, it's about which one will work best with your combo.
