Roof dimples - cause by lowering?
Recently I've notice several dimples on the roof, specifically near the edges of the sunroof. They don't look like it was caused by impact with another object, more like from torque and stress. I've read on some other forums, some guys suspect it could be from lowering and/or other suspension related, pothole impact etc, but nothing was conclusive.
The first time I noticed it was about 2-3 weeks after installing coilovers. From there they've accumulated progressively. Two fairly large ones at opposite corners of the sun roof edge, and lately some very smaller ones forming they looks like hail dents.
Is it safe to assume that is the cause? I am not even that dropped that low, modest in comparison to what I see here. I have H&R Sports and set approximately at the highest height in the recommended range. On 19's.
I do feel the functionality of driving has taken a hit. I don't mind a bumpy ride at all, I like the feedback. But on the roads here really suck (MN). More often than I would like, I find myself cringing at potholes and bumpy patches. Not because of the discomfort to me, just afraid I am putting the car through too much stress / impact. It sure feels that way, is this normal?

Wait a minute. I see what's going on here. It's because you're riding on 19" wheels with elastic band thick tires, mated to a stiff suspension, going over cringe worthy potholes. What do you expect to happen?
The suspension isn't the biggest issue. It's your 19" wheels. Sell those and go down to 18s. The car is suffering excessive structural stress. How much bending before the sunroof pops?![RIP](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smitty.gif)

The 19's could be part of the problem, but it really comes down to his tires, specifically his OD/sidewall height. Stock sidewall height is about 3.75", but 3.5" is be perfectly acceptable, a lot of guys on here run that with no ill effects. My guess, if it's related to wheels/tires/suspension at all is the damping/spring-rate/drop, which tends to translate much more into the structure of the car than the wheels/tires. If he has a particularly barrel-heavy wheel with a particularly heavy, short sidewall tire then it could contribute, but that's unlikely.

- Wheels are quite old. Axis Milano / Jaz Trinity (I forget), Tires are Falkens 245/35/19. Both will be replaced in the very near future
(New wheels are also 19's Kyowa Evolve w/ Yokos) - Weeks after dropped, hearing grind/scrape/squeeling, have been told LCA, ball joint, bushing needs work.
- Front is a lower than I want it to be, rear looks perfect. Love the look but may likely end up leaving more gap for a better form/function balance. We'll see how the new wheel+tires go.

Yeah, a little demoralizing. I've had the a-spec kit for a while and just only put them on right before the coilovers. It looks like a complete different car to me pretty much. Like buying a new car then finding it has hidden ailments.

Since you didn't tell me the exact model I'm just going to go with the general OD of that tire, which is 25.8". This will give you a sidewall height of 3.4, which is short, but nowhere near extreme. I can also see the tire fits the wheel pretty good, so they're not being stretched into having a shorter sidewall. Also, it looks like the bulk of the weight of the wheel is in the hub and spokes, not the outer rim, so I don't think your wheels/tires are the problem at all.

mine only showed up AFTER I got my car back from the shop.
so, I accused or asked the shop if the roof of the car COULD EVER get damaged by their lifts. my buddy, the shop owner laughed at me. said, "nah...the lifts are computer controlled with lasers. I deal with lambo's and ferarri's, Justin"
which made me think of the front impact accident that I DID have to put me in the shop in the first place....
the indentions in the roof line up exactly with what side i hit. I concluded that I DID THEM in the accident.
