Road Balance

I'm taking my 04 TL in to get some new tires put on and the tech mentioned something about a road balance as opposed to a regular balance. Sounds like they load the tire, as if it's rolling with your car on it, and then balance it. The cost is double ($69.95 vs $139.95) of a regular balance but I wonder if it's worth it? I currently have the OEM Turanza's on with no problems except some vibration once I over-heat the rotors which I can live with for now.

Totally worth it (if your car vibrates after a normal alignment). Price seems a little high as down here in Miami Fl I can get it done for no more than 100 bucks. But maybe that depends on location????

I don't have any vibration now with the Turanza's. I'm mounting some new BFGoodrich's today and wonder which type of balance I should get? If I don't have any vibration seems like I might be wasting my $$$.

Any decent place should be able to a simple mount and balance on your tires without you having to do that road force. Personally for you it would be a waste of money to have that done. I'd just stick to the regular balance and you should be fine. Also some places offer life time balancing and rotation something you could also look into.

If you are not familiar with the Hunter Road Force balance machine and had your tires done on one---- shut up!

Not only does it read the tire for weight balance- ansd tells you where to mount flat weights, hidden in the center of your nice rims,
It records and compares each tires spec when done- then assigns it to a specific corner of the car!
Go read their website~

Smooth is a good description-
Look around at other tire shops for a realistic price, or ask if they will do it for 50 bucks for all 4 plus -
If they sold you tires you merit a deal

Exactly. A friend of mine at the local honda dealership down the street said it is the coolest thing ever and works so good all of them have started to do their personal vehicles on it! I'm going in tomorrow for an updated alignment and plan to have this done.

My 01, running 18 inch Enkei's, 235-40 General UHP's -balanced on road force-
and its dead steady on the freeway and in town.
The balance weights are nicely tucked into the middle of the rim, not banged onto the outside edge

If you have directional tires, ones with a `run this -------> direction`,
The machine will tell you which to run on front/back
Other tires- it will tell you where on the car to mount that tire/rim combo

With tires already mounted, sometimes they have to remount the tires -move them around the rim until it gets the perfect balance.
Tires have a heavy point- its supposed to go opposite of the valve stem to even that out, but its often overlooked at regular tire shops,,, who throw the tire on the rim- balance it within 1/2 ounce and say- the machine does it, no need to recheck after!
and slap it on the car with twice the stated torque for the wheel lugs

Sound familiar to anyone who watched tires get mounted- ever in their life??!
