Rim Questions from a Rookie

I just purchased an 03 TL-P last week. The first thing I plan to do is buy some rims and lower. I've done some research at this forum and at times i find contradictory statements such as no rubbing with less than a 44 offset (near impossible if lowered!). To be on the safe side I want to ask the question myself and see if there was in significant difference in ride quality between 18' and 19's. I'm 50/50 and there's lots to consider i.e. frequency of tire replacements, ride quality, and what drop is suited best for each size i.e. hr oe's or comptech. I'm new to the game so any info would be greatly appreciated thanks. :p

Welcome to the board. I have the same car as you and have tried both 17's and 18's, but never 19's. If your going to lower your car, I would say get 18's, but be prepare to loose some smoothness from the ride and a bit more road noise. I have the OZ Superleggera 18x7, +45 with 225/40/18 Yoko Parada Spec 2 tires. Handling with the 18's are great, sticks like glue even with stock suspension. As for 17's, I had the 5 Zigen Heidfeld, looks ok and the tires were 215/50/17. The ride is almost the same as stock 16's. I have since went back to 16's because my job requires me to drive about 100 miles per day and it doesn't really make sense to change tires every year or so. I did upgrade the stock tire size to 225/55/16 and have switch the '03 TL rims to the '00 Accord V6 coupe.......just a preference.

I'm rolling on 19x8 with +45 offset (235/35/19) with H&R Sport springs and had to shave the rear tabs in the fender well.

IMHO - the ride is not that bad. Yes, I'll admit it does feel a bit more "bouncier" than my old 18's but I am very happy with my 19's and would recommend it.

A good place to start would be here. Get an idea of what each member has and any difficulties they have encountered. Keep in mind that the stock wheel offset is +55.
