It's the wife's car, so it's been babied since new.
Is there an issue with the stock tires on 2004 TL's?

If they are the Turanzas, they lasted a long time. 22k miles is very long service for them.

The Turanzas that come with the car are horrible. Mine were pretty much bald at around 20k miles. I didn't change 'em out until I had around 27k miles (which wasn't a good idea). I should've changed em out earlier.

Is this abnormal tire life for a passenger car? The stickly tires on my 2001 Corvette lasted more than this mileage and that included a couple day at the track...
Has anyone blamed / talked to Acura about this?

I didn't take note of the title ..... Replaced tires ...... If that's the case, I'm not sure if the SB would still be valid. You can always check with your dealer.

I'll be changing my EL42s out real soon. I have 25K on mine and they are the reformulated ones. There is still probably about 3K left of life on them but I will not chance it. I will either go with the Pirelli PZerors or the Toyo Proxes4s. I never had issues with the EL42s though.

For some reason most car manufacturers use a oem tire that everyone seems to dislike. OEM tires tend to be either too expensive, too short tread life, lack traction or they are noisy. At my dealer we recommend the Avon's which get rave reviews from Tire Rack. Just be sure your car is aligned right, you watch the tire pressure and you rotate the tires regularly.

Sadly enough, I still have my EL-42's on my 2 year old auto TL with over 32,000 miles. TIME TO CHANGE. Any advise on where to get tires for a decent price. My last car could get good Dunlops for $80 ea, now I am seeing TL tires for $180 ea.

EL-42s are on SPECIAL at tire rack for $179 ea (ouch)
These are the 4 that stood out to me:
Continental ContiExtremeContact
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Kumho ECSTA ASX
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Pirelli PZero Nero M&S
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Any experience with any them?
Unfortunately I did not see the Toyo's so I will either have to look harder or check another place. Thanks for the input.

I was lucky enough to have my EL42s replaced under warranty at my dealership. They obviously know about this POS tires. Next time around, I'm going for the Toyo's, since that's what I was going to get until the dealership replaced them for free.

Go to Tirerack.com and check out the Avons..I'll be ordering them next week. They get good reviews and high marks from a tire dealer I use that doesn't even carry them.

Mine were not that bad at all, I got the car with 10k miles, but I took it in and got all new bump stops and 4 new tires under warantee, I just told them about the service bulletin, they hooked me up, since the tires didnt show any excessive wear at all, I think its only when you overload the trunk and back seat.
But the tread wear on the stock tires is low as well, so that is a part of it as well.
Can't complain for now, since I have new tires.

I used TireVan.net, a local DC area business that comes to your house to install your new tyres. They order from the Tire Rack. Based on my experience, I assume that most Tire Rack–approved installers are probably OK.

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S
Last month, after losing control & careening into a snow bank during a snow storm, I got 4 new Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires. Besides a slightly rough ride and a little extra road noise, these things are awesome. I feel so secure on these guys. Pricey, but they handle great!

Are there any users with Michelin’s tires who got close to 40000 miles on them?

Thank your lucky stars!
It's not your tires...it's the faulty alignment of the TL especially under loaded conditions. I've burned through 2 sets of tires (I have the A-Spec set up) in 13,000 miles and after a realignment my 3rd set seems to be wearing a bit better. Maybe I'll get 10,000 if I'm lucky. I would be completely satisfied if I got 22,500 miles on a set of tires.

So, how long does the OEM Michellin tires last? I am about 22,xxx miles on my car. According to my last service (3/4/2006), I still have 7/32 of thread left. Does it mean I will get another 10-15K miles on it? I do a lot of highway driving, an average of 60 miles per day.

Gotta go with Gump - I have two EL42's with just over 30,000 miles on them
One of the stock EL42's let go at about 26,000 miles (not sure what happened...) and I replaced that pair with Toyo Proxes 4: love the Toyo's, will replace the other 2 EL42's when they're done.
Oh, I drive ~1600 miles per month, highway, for work, 1400 miles a month, highway, for picking up / dropping off my kids.

Where and how do you people drive ??? LOL I think the Bridgestone tires suck too but bald after 20,000 miles or less ????? My 05 TL has just over 23,000 miles on it now and I am not all that close to swapping out the original tires. The only reason I would swap them out now is to get a set of Pirelli P Zero Nero's M&S....I had those on my VW Jetta GLX and loved them. Dry traction was unreal and they were just as good on wet roads. I also drove them through a very rough New England Winter and didn't even have a problem with that !
If you are getting 20,000 miles or less out of a set of tires you either are driving like a maniac, drving on sandpaper, or can't stand it once a tread wears down a fraction of an inch.....LOL. As for people that said their tires were bald at 11,000 miles or so....my suggestion.....sue the tire company....lol.

My EL-42 were gone at 20K. Seems that thats all one can get out of them. And thats with easy driving, regular rotations and alignments.Someone told me that the Florida road/asphalt has some shell filler in it. That might make it very abrasive and accelerate the wear. But when they start to hydroplane you do not mess with your life! My Kumhos ASX work great although I do not expect to get beyond 20-25K on this set- based on whats left after 10K.

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
were my choice at 17K and just because is Summer and I had some spare change to buy them but besides the Turanzas sucking in the snow I had no other complaints, personally I think these would work great on a rear wheel car , not the TL, but like I mentioned on other threads, I had a RSX-S and the Michelin Pilots as OEM were garbage, but here I see some guys loving it...so IMHO (humble) I say that the Turanzas are not for the TL...but they're not garbage...

I'm getting very close to replacing my stock OEM tires on my '04 TL manual (of couse, the EL42s). I have just over 25,000 miles on the car and tires. First I'm putting new low dusting pads on the front (Rotex Gold Kevlar pads) and will thorough wash the accumulated dust from the inside areas of the front wheels. Then next comes the tires.
I'm most likely going to go with Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires even though they are only H rated. I was having a really hard time deciding between them and the Pilot Sport A/S's since I've had those before. But the Pilot Sport A/S tires make a strange, and somewhat annoying sound, very similar to what you would hear driving down a tree-lined two-lane country road that is freshly wet from rain. This sound seems to only present itself under throttle or braking conditions, but is very noticable. Other than that, the Pilot Sport A/S's are really superior tires.
The car that I had the Pilot Sport A/S tires installed on was my last one.. a 2002 Altima SE which came stock with out infamous EL42's. I which to the Michelins at 33,000 miles on that car and still have maybe another 10,000 left on the EL42s. But talk about hydroplaning.. it was to the point of complete contact separation in heavy rain with standing water with that car with the EL42s. My TL has never been like that.
At 25,000 miles, the EL42s on my TL could probably go another 6-10,000 miles, but I will not do this simply because I am not fond of the tire.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.
I'd like to revisit this as new tires may be out on the market that I am unaware of.
My 2004 TL tires need to be replaced now after 33,000km
I too was surprised as I didn't replace my old Civic tires until after 60,000km.
I'm in Vancouver so it rains quite a bit. We get the occassional snow in the winter as well.
Driving-wise, I take transit for work and only drive on days off, evenings/weekends.
Mostly city driving, but we do a few road trips to Whistler and down to Seattle each year.
I'm thinking a set of all seasons with good value. I don't need anything high performance as I'm a family man now.
Your advice is appreciate since I'm clueless about tires.
Thank you.
