Recommendations for new tires '07-TL

Hi all,

Looking to get a new set of tires for my 07 TL. Was at the dealer the other day and they recommended the OEM Michelin tires. Given the price of these tires I was wondering if anyone has any recommendation on alternate tires.
I live in Michigan so all-year would be a requirement.

Looking at the ratings from the tire-rack the Bridgestone potenza and the Continental Extreme contact stand out based on reviews.

Important to me is longevity and handling (and fuel economy I guess).

Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Of course them recommend OEM Michelin tires because they want you to buy the tires from them (the dealer) so they earn money on the purchase. My 0'4 OEM tires were

Conti DWS is my vote. I've had mine for about 6k miles and they are amazing in the wet and dry. I also decided to get them because we do get our fair share of snow/ice here but just haven't had any of that yet this winter. But the tires are great no matter where you live. And a ton of other members will agree.

There are several other tire threads in here you may want to look at.

x2 on the Conti DWS. I am sporting winters right now, but i did have the chance to drive in a little snow with my Contis and they were great. They are also great in the rain. A little soft for such a high performance all-season tire, but still a great option. Cheaper than stock too which is great.

as a safe all season tire I would definitely go with the DWS, and possibly pick up a set of winters in case things get crazy. The DWS should get you through any unexpected periods of snow in a pinch though.

Agree with everyone... Don't bother with OEM, those are really crappy...

Can't go wrong with Conti DWS or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. These are the two tires I have on my cars currently. Which Bridgestones were you looking at? I had the RE960AS on my cars previously... They were ok, but the DWS and Pilots are much better. Not sure how the RE970AS are tho. I was skeptical of the reviews on TireRack for those because of how few miles they have, as I wasn't impressed with the RE960AS.

I put on a pair of Versado this past weekend and a pair of Versado about a year ago to replace premature wearing of the OEM on my 07 TL. I will be bring the car to the tire shop this weekend to replace the Versado as they seem noisier than the OEM and the car seems to 'float', roll and isn't as tight as when I had the OEM on the car. I'm looking to replace them with the DWS or the Mich Primacy... For me, I want the car whisper quiet as well as handle well so I can take turns and drive the TL the way it was mean to be driven. Too darn hard to make a choice; feel like you lose either way.

I have Conti DWS and like them a lot.. great.. and I mean great in the rain...and I have pushed them in the rain... havent tested on snow since for some reason we didnt get 3 feet of snow this year.. but some slush and ice patches and it worked fine.. hard to test since I am not going to push the car when I see that on the ground.. on dry days it handles without problem.. the only.. and i truly mean only drawback is that it cannot hold a shine.. meaning if you like to wipe your tires all the time and get that glossy look it wont hold it like the other tires

if you have stock wheels then I say yes.. it will give you the best ride quality to perfromance... now it doesnt look as nice as lower sidewall tires but if you are not dropping the car then it doesnt matter... 235 45 17 is tried and true.. there are other variations but each person has their own preference on handling and noise.. question comes down to if you want to do trial and error that fits your comfort

I had the Conti DWS. Great on wet and dry traction. I never used them in the cold or snow. I didn't like them because of the noise and other things. I could never get them to stay balanced. I had them for about 6000 miles and eroded 2/32 off them. Continental replaced them under their ride satisfaction guarantee.

Now I have the Michelin Primacy MXM4. I really like them. I've had them on my TL for about 23K miles now and they ride great. I think I've worn them 2-3/32 in 23K miles so I'm getting good life out of them. The wet and dry traction is really good. We really haven't had much of a winter this year but when it did snow I didn't have any issues with them.

What were you using? I use Meguiars Endurance Hi Gloss Gel... The DWS was able to hold a shine for about 3 weeks, which is about the same as the Michelins.

I have 19", but I went with 245/35-19 instead of the closer to OEM 235/35-19.

Okay guys, my OE Bridgestone Potenza RE030 that came with my 07 TL-S (Jul 07) lasted 30.5K miles (right about a little over 2 years), considering that RE030 were 140 A A, and replaced them with Michelin PS2 (220 AA A) on Sep 09, they were great improvement over the OE's Bridgestone. But, today (Feb 25 2012), at 65.7K miles (about 35+K miles) I got Michelin latest PSS (Pilot Super Sport) (300 AA A) and they are even greater, or I should say huge improvement over PS2.

I could have push those OE, and PS2 longer, but I never got those adjustable camber kits. I'll get them next week. I want to see these PSS pushing at least 40 or 45K.

BTW, amazing grip, very sticky, while even quieter than PS2, can't imagine on the improvement vs those OE's Bridgestone Potenza RE030...

the dws's have water repelling properties which probably explains why most tire shine products dont hold to it.

I have DWS too. Their color is indeed unique, somewhat dark grey-brown, which is very different from other tires. The sidewalls look matt instead of gross.
