really confused about offset??!!!??
Okay so im thinking about getting new wheels for my 04 tl. But im really confused about the offset. I do not have a drop on my car and I do not plan on dropping my car because of crappy ass roads I drove on a everyday bases. Now i saw some very nice rims that have a offset of +35. I know the stock wheels on our tl's is 45. Can anyone explain to me how offset works. I did do a search but still dont understand it.

it's me, Alan Rickman.
from Reliabletool.com:
Offset is measured from the wheel mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. There are two types of offset - Positive and Negative.
Positive Offset is when the wheel mounting surface is outside of the wheel centerline.
Negative Offset is when the wheel mounting surface is inside of the wheel centerline.

btw the wheels i was looking at were 18s with a offset of +35
and the other ones were 19s with a offset of +40
will these fit on the stock tl without being lowered.
and would i need spacers?

a 32 pushes the wheel out more. any offset between 34 and 45 works, but it has to be an 8" wide wheel. an 18x8 +35 and 19x8 +40 will both be fine but u gotta keep in mind if the width changes the offsets change slightly to account for the extra width.

well becareful
i have a set of 18x8.5 and offset was +45
they didnt fit, scratched the caliper sligtly and had to take them off
needed a 10 mm spacer...
now i have a very light scratch on both calipers...(stupid wheel guy didnt spin the wheel to make sure it fit before attempting to drive off the lift...)
