Some rims have enough holes so they will fit either 4 or 5 bolt patterns, but if the wheel you want only has 4 holes, then NO!

i am a newb when it comes to rims, but shouldn't they have a adapter/spacer thing that could make a 5 to a 4?

No. There is no way to fit 5 studs into 4 holes.

I'm not a tire and wheel specialist but... you need to not only use a 5 lug rim but one that has the proper bolt pattern, center bore and offset. The bolt pattern is pretty specific and has to be 5. The center bore can be larger but is then usually adapted by center rings. The offset is also important but can vary from OEM spec and still work. Some people use spacers to correct offset but from what I gather they can lead to problems.

Read up on some articles in the wheele tech section of this page. http://www.tirerack.com/about/techcenter.jsp

Also if you have the 6MT you need to be concerned about brake caliper clearance.

4-lug hubs probably aren't robust enough for the TL.

No, per Ron A.
The reason that the Honda/Acura V-6s (and I think Toyotas as well) have 5 lug wheels instead of 4 is to lessen the risk of engine torque shearing the lugs off and losing the wheels.
The old American cars (65-68 Mustangs, etc.) had 4 lug hubs for their 6 cylinder cars and 5 lugs for the 8 cylinder cars. I've read about people dropping V-8s into the 6-cylinder Mustang chassis and shearing the lugs and losing the wheels. I had people in my old Capri Club dropping 302-4Vs and Boss 302s into Capris with 4 lug wheels, then shearing the lugs and wheels off before they learned to install 5-lug hubs and wheels along with 9-in rear ends, etc.
Remember that the TL's V-6 is as powerful as a lot of the 60's and 70's stock V-8 "musclecars" (and quicker in 0-60 and quarter!), so a 4-lug wheel hub would probably not be robust or strong enough to last.

You will either have to redrill the holes on the wheels, or do a 4-lug conversion.

Neither of which makes logical sense. Buy wheels with the proper lug pattern. [/thread]
