Purchasing stock suspension?

My 06 TL feels like it needs new suspension and the first thing I did was call up my local Acura dealer and got a quote for all 4 struts and springs. The price I got was a lot more than I had expected but what's even mover compelling abut the price is the difference in prices for front springs.

Is there a reason why the prices are different? Is the tension on the springs different from left to right?

^yes, to compensate for the heavier left side.
the tranny/battery hangs over the left side.

If changing suspension and dealers pricing is way out of your league; why not go aftermarket?

I see. The reason I started looking into stock suspension was because I thought it would be easier to just replace old with new stock suspension. Also because I wasn't changing the car height. I did do some looking around for aftermarket suspension and to be honest I am not mechanically inclined so I was pretty blown away by the amount of suspension options available.

Acura also sells the Acura Specified suspension, or commonly known as the Aspec suspension.

it retains stock like ride while dropping it less than an inch.
I have this on my car.
most cant even tell that its dropped, it looks factory.

I like the sound of that. Does that come in a kit or buy them individually? The quote that I got was for individual parts because they don't sell them or the parts don't come in a kit.

I've seen the Aspec suspension package on Ebay for around 400-600 dollars.

these ebay ads are from Acura Dealers, so not to worry about imitation parts or being ripped off.

also, there are some Aspec suspension kits floating on the black market here on acurazine.

you mentioned that you arent mechanically inclined.
if you were to take it to a shop to install, dont get ripped...
it shouldnt be more than 150 for labor.

Thanks ma man. You have been very informative. I have a buddy that works on my car so he will most likely do the suspension swap but since he doesn't have wheel alignment machine, I am going to have to take it elsewhere to get that done. $400-$600 for suspension plus ~$200 for labor and alignment sounds like a good enough deal for me.

This will vary some depending on location. The better way to look at it is 3 to 4 hours shop time at the going local rate.

Here that's about $60/hr or $180 - $240.

What would you recommend for aftermarket suspension? My company gets discounts on Koni, btw.

nice!!
I mixed and matched the Koni yellow shocks with the aspec springs.

I had a buddy that gave away his aspec springs to me.

H&R sport springs are an awesome combination with the Koni's
and will drop it even more so than the aspec springs.

I will look into the the first option if that's a better combo than going straight a-spec.

way much better combo.
BUTT, the aspec suspension is sold as one piece.

Unless you find some one that has broken them apart, like my buddy who just gave the springs to me.....you'll end up spending more.(unless your hook up on the koni's is significant!!)

check this website out to see what all is being offered, save the Acura specified parts.

Hyper you have couple options here buddy:

1> only height adjustment - tein basis and couple other names which dont come to mind LOL
2> height + dampening - tein SS, XLR8 ISC N1, HT SPEC, etc

I would personally go for the XLR8 ISC N1 just coz it offers sooo much for the $$$

for 850 shipped out get
coils
tops hats
dampening adjustment
preload adjustment

for tein SS, which is ~$1000 shipped
you get
coils
dampening adjustment

you will have to reuse your top hats and you will not be able to adjust preload....

hope this helps
