Thanks for the pix...looks good. Although that's not a lot of sidewall on the road.

Oddly enough, last week I took a ride in my buddy's S4 with the 19" wheel package. The ride wasn't too bad, but then we hit some rough broken pavement and it really became rough. His Audi has a stiff sport suspension similar to my TL-S but with the 19s over rough pavement the ride was a bit too harsh for my tastes. The fact that they were RFT probably added to the harsh ride as well....anyways, even though 19s look hella cool, I don't think they make sense for me with the horrendous roads in Ottawa. Ended up ordering a new set of 18 X 8.5" A-Specs...thanks to all for your input!
I'll post pix and my thoughts once everything is installed....just gotta determine tire size now!

Excellent choice! If I were to go back, I would have bought Aspecs in 8.5". Now put some 245/40/18 rubber on their and you're set. This will close up the fender-wheel gap. I did 245/40/18 Goodyear F1 A/S on 18x8's(21lbs I think) and the gap is down to 2 fingers(maybe 2.5 in front). Those tires are massive compared to the stockers Michelins. 18's are the best compromise for potholes IMO. I used to ride 205/40/17 on my Integra and bent the lip more than a few times even though I pothole patrol full time. Sometimes you just can't dodge them. You're still going to have to obviously look out for the major ones like manhole lips and such but with the 10" width, you should be able to go over the little ones no problem. It was slightly rougher but I switched from Grand Touring to Ultra HP A/S. The F1's were so sticky that idling in Drive the car barely moves.

Thanks...

At first, I was going to go with 245/40/18s...but now I'm thinking about 265/35/18s! The diameter is nearly identical to OEM, the sidewall height is 12mm lower than OEM and only 5mm lower than the 245/40 so I don't think that ride quality will be affected that much. Also since I have the 8.5" A-Specs, I don't think that the increased section and/or tread width will be an issue.

Spiritman here installed them on 8.0" A-Specs and I don't think he's had any wear issues as of yet but I'd like to hear an update before/if I pull the trigger on 265s.

Help

First off, i think this is one of the most relevant threads on this site (im a newbie). I have been debating the same issue myself 18 vs 19. Since I live in northern u.s. i think that i'm going to go with 18's because of the potholes. One problem, I have the 6mt with the brembo's. Love the brakes, hate trying to find wheels for it. I know what style I like, I just can't find any for my budget. Get ready to laugh. I'm try to stay under $250 a wheel. IF anybody can find these wheels for this price, or ones styled very similar I would be greatly indebted to you. bremma
In case the hyperlink doesn't work. Looking for 18in. tsw bremma's in chrome. Or something very similar. Sorry about the long post.

So... this is my 10 day review... After 10 days on the 19's there really isn't much difference than the stock 17's. I have hit a pothole a couple days ago at about 50km, there was an ugly noise but luckily no damage. IMO if the car had been lowered or had a stiffer suspension, then that might have caused some damage.

Hey Ramrod, not trying to bud in to your business, i read you wanted to go with A Spec wheels. The only thing i have to say is ,even though they are nice wheels, isn't the point of getting wheels to customize your car and make it stand out from the rest? I just can't understand why you would want the sames wheels as what is currently on a whole bunch of TL's already.

No worries and that is a fair question...TBH I haven't seen one TL in Ottawa with A-Specs, let alone the 8.5" A-Specs, so I think they will be unique on my TL-S. I'm sure that there are a few out there, but I haven't seen them yet.
I was really torn between the A-Specs and RJ Legends, but in the end the A-Specs at 18" looked better to me than the RJ Legends in 18"...my opinion only! If I could swing 19s here, I most like would've gone with the RJs (although those Momo GTRs in 19 would be sweet!). I don't know if you've been to Ottawa recently, but the roads are just pathetic...especially this year after the crazy Winter that we had. I already obsess about my cars enough now as it is...I don't want to have to worry about my rims getting destroyed!

Anyways, the 8.5" A-Specs are rare enough as well....haven't seen a lot of them around.....we'll see!

The roads here are just as bad, that's why I won't go with 19's. Not enough cushion for the potholes. I'm thinking about selling the LG RJ's and going a different route. Those 275/30/19 looked small. Need to drop that whip. I love the lip on the rear. I think Tim in Chi-town was/is running a 265 on a 10" wide, that was outrageous!

Really? I'm thinking about a 265/35 on the 8.5" A-Spec...I think it'll work....
The 235 and even 245s look a little stretched on a 8" wheel.

I used to have some Centerforce high polish alum 17's that weight 12 lbs on my old eclipse. Now that was bad ass!
Well you guys inspired me, I'm getting some RonJon's Legends in 18's. As a matter of fact, I'm bought Dragonlord's wheels. Couldn't pass up some great wheels!

Check out the last post of this thread. I thought the same. After getting my new wheels, I'm completely satisfied!

is the ride quality that much different between the 235/35 and the 245/35 in 19"?

I'm getting Axis Decades in 235, dropped with Comptech this weekend. Should I have opted for the 245?

i had 19" ronjon inspyre;s for about three years and honestly im getting tired of them. They couldnt look better but the ride is becoming to bumpy harsh and what not.... I guess when u have brand new tires its not that bad but as soon as u hit a pothole and start dealing with bent rims and whatever comes with it. Not fun anymore.

Im really thinking of selling them and going with a 18 inch tire with maybe 255 40 18 tire but hopefully the steering wont get to heavy....

Word. I love the look of big wheels but with big wheels comes the pain of jacking them up. I used to have 205/40/17 on an Integra and once the tires start getting worn down, the rims start bending very easily, especially if you're lowered and the car doenst have any suspension travel. I would have to basically scan the road full time which makes it sort of dangerous. Theres a reason why I only have 18's now and I'm glad I did it. I still get jealous when I see some 19's on a TL but I am glad I don't have to endure their pain and poor ride quality.

Go with the 245/40/18. They help fill the gap as well as offer a margin of protection. 255/40/18 is going to jack up the car a little and may rub because the overall diameter is increased. It'll also make your rims look smaller than they are.

I vote for 245/40-18. As wheel sizes go up it gets harder to tell the difference between to similar sizes. The only reason people can tell the difference between an 18" and 19" wheel because the tire sidewall is so much smaller on the 19" And because the sidewall is so small you have to drop the car more to balance out the fender gap.

Also on the RJs the spokes go all the way to the edge, which makes the wheel look bigger than it really is. The actual edge-to-edge diameter on an 18" wheel is 19"
