Problems with aluminum lug nuts?
I was wanting to get some colored lug nuts (green), but I noticed most of them are aluminum. I've heard some bad things about aluminum lug nuts (seizing to the steel, stripping out, etc), yet I see them all the time on peoples cars on here. I was just wondering about their reliability.

I've never really had any issues with aluminum lug nuts as long as they were of good quality. However since aluminum is much softer then steel (at least the aluminum used for lug nuts anyways), you don't want to use an impact gun on them. Yeah, I use an impact gun when I put the nuts on the RSX (Skunk2 lug nuts), however I run lower PSI in the gun and the gun on its lowest setting and just use it to drive the nut until it seats. Then I hand tighten to tq specs.

ive owned 2 sets of aluminum lug nuts (Work and Rays) and have had no problems. although anodized aluminum fades color so dont expect them to stay the same color over a long period of time. also if u remove them and put them on a lot, the color will get stripped away by the socket. keep in mind this is over a long period of time as well. they are really light compared to OEM!

You should also be using anti seize compound on the threads to help prevent the seizing to the steel, stripping out, etc. Even if you get steel lugs you should be using it too.
