Possibly a very stupid question

Alright, I've never had to buy rims before. This is my 3rd car and I've always kept the stock rims on. Right now the stock rims 17" on my TL are looking pretty beat up and the tires have 3/32 to 4/32 tread life left. I'm considering upgrading to some nice 19" chrome rims but what I'm wondering is how bad of an idea is it to keep chrome rims on during the winter season??
I know a lot of guys put the nice rims on during the spring-summer-fall and put the cheaper rims on during winter.
So my options are:
1) Either I keep the stock 17's on and just get some good All-season tires for them and wait till next spring to get 19's. Then I'll have my winter rims/tires and my summer rims/tires
or
2) I get the 19" chrome rims and tires and keep them on through the winter.

I'd like to get some opinions. I dont want to keep chrome rims on during the winter if its going to do serious damage to them. So what do you guys think?

Personally, I would get some All Seasons for the stockers and wait on the 19's. Not only will the winter weather and road salt destroy a chrome finish isf you dont hose them down every day, but the tires on the 19's will cause traction issues when driving in the snow.

Chrome, Winter, North East USA, Bad combination... Even if you clean your wheels everyday, theyre gonna get pitted and chrome will begin to chip/peal away.

Best setup for winter is a small (17") steel wheel, with a narrow tire

all season for now...save the chrome for next year...getting em now and leaving em on thru the winter will be a waste of money and you will regret it!

Yea, I was really leaning towards just getting some new all-seasons for the stock tires. Probably the Falken ZE 912s with a 235/45/17 set-up and just wait until next spring to get a nice pair of 19s.
Thanks guys

Is there really much of a benefit in going 245/45/17 instead of 235/45/17?
Bigger tire, better handling?

In the dry weather, yes. In the snow and for better MPGs, no.
