PLEASE HELP - Tein Install

I'm installing my Tein Basics right now and I'm at the point where I need to tighten the top nut and the rod keeps turning!!!! I can't clamp the rod with anything due to scratching it and the groove at the top of the rod to hold it from not spinning is covered by the damn nut!!! There is no slot for the hex wrench to hold it in place.

HELP!!! I have a new nut so it's not broken in yet and the locking thread at the top of it is hard to break in, I guess that's the point.

IS THE ROD SUPPOSED TO TURN? DO I HAVE A BAD SHOCK?

Impact gun works wonders at this point. As I recall there is a nut you can fit an adjustable on to hold it. I could be wrong but then I usually use air tools when I am doing suspension.

I'm not sure how the air tool would keep the rod from turning? In the manual it says to not use an air gun?

Which Tein system did you get? I dunno had no problems installing my top hats for my old setup. I havent done the suspension to my TL yet only to older vehicles. I know what your sayin but I am trying to remember what my tein system was like since it has been a while since I have touched one. Your talkin about the top tophat nut that holds the tophat on right?

Yes sir, that's the one! I have the tein basic and I don't have an air gun compressor! I just keep turning it and the rod keeps turning with it. I'm not supposed to hold the rod with a vise or something because it will damage the rod!

THEY SHOULD OF HAD THE DAMN ALLEN WRENCH HOLE IN THE TOP LIKE THE STOCK SUSPENSION. HELPPPPP!!!

Yo... If you're taking about the pic where the nut isn't threaded all the way down, I think I did that while the strut was Off the car. I had some push down on the tophat while I screw the nut down. But I thought it did have an allen hole to hold it... am I wrong? I did this a long time ago.

Yea usually you thread it off the car. They should have an allen or some sort of mechanism to hold it in the middle while you go at it with a box end wrench, but I usually get it started then impact it down. You can impact the tophat down its 10x faster lol. But you sure the install and everything is right right?

That's the one. I tried to tighten it with the strut off and the black washer sits right on the bottom of the rod so there is no room left to push the top hat down? Maybe I'll call Tein on Monday to see what's up but I was really trying to finish this up on the weekend.

the only thing they have is a flat groove at the top of the rod but I just can't get the nut low enough to get to that point

If its off the car find a big friend and tell him to compress while you thread the bolt down enough. THat should get it sitting right.

Are you reusing the old nuts? It doesn't look like a nylon lock nut but more like a nut that has had thread lock put on and is being reused. If that is the case get new nuts.

WOW there is a god! I got it. I had to remove the bottom washer and just leave the bigger black washer in there and just use the gold washer for the top.

I upgraded to the Type S rubber bushings and they are larger than the standard ones so that's what had caused the very little room for the screw. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP GUYS.

HA HA I LIKE THAT... GET NEW NUTS Ü If anyone reads this the trick that I did as well was to use some rubber vacuum tubing that was lying around and I cut the middle of it to fit around the rod, then used pliers to hold the rod with the rubber as protection and presto I was able to turn the nut and the rubber didn't scratch the rod at all with the pliers.

HEY GUYS ALWAYS USE YOUR RUBBERS FOR PROTECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you figured it out.. I did mine over a weekend and while sometimes a pain in the ass and a few busted knuckles it was actually pretty fun in the end.
