Please help me decide on a winter tire.

These are the tires that I am stuck between.

I am leaning towards the Blizzak WS-60 because it seems to have the best traction and snow and especially on ice. I live in western, PA so we can get a decent amount of snow at times and the roads can be icey. I do like the performance winter tire of the Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip.

Any one run any of these tires?

Thanks for the help!

If the Micehlin X-Ice Xi2 come in your size, it will give equal or superior ice performance yet last longer; and I strongly recommend the Xi2 as I was not satisfied with the tread life of the WS60s.

I was looking at the:
Bridgestone LM 25
Goodyear Ultra Grip
Dunlop Winter Sport 3D

I chose the Dunlop due to price and reviews. I am still waiting for our first snow to check them out.

If you're looking for a dedicated winter tire, look no further than Nokian - specifically, the Hakkapeliitta 5. These are, by far, the best winter tires I've EVER owned. They're pricier than the Blizzak WS60's, which I've had in the past, but well worth it. So, if can spare the extra few bucks, it's well worth going with the Nokians, as nothing you'll get at TireRack will ever compare to them. I believe a few others on this board are running them, with great results, as well.

I don't know why it won't let me edit my post, but I accidentally posted the wrong tire. The tire I'm referring to is the Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi: http://www.tirefactory.net/RSI.htm

I am sure they are better than most because they are studdable but I dont think I need a tire with studs. If I lived in a area where it snowed daily then I would def. go with those.

I am also a fan of Nokian, and just put on a set of the Nokian WRG2s, a tire described as an all-season but with the severe snowflake emblem, qualifying it for snow tire status. Haven't had any snow yet, but they handled well in rain.

Previously on my TL, I had the Dunlop Wintersports and was extremely pleased, but with 125k miles on my car, I wanted an all-season for the next 40k miles until my next new car. If I was going to swap winter and summer tires out, I'd probably opt for the Dunlops simply because they are considerably cheaper than the Nokians.

I just put the Goodyear Ultra Grip on my 07 TL-S last week. Used the stock Michelin all seasons last winter (in Minneapolis) and they were adequate to get around in our snowy climate. But I really wasn't able to take advantage of the type-S performance. So I decided to get performance snow tires for this winter.

So far we have only had one real snowfall, but the Goodyear Ultra Grip tires were significantly better than the Michelin all-seaons. No activation of the traction control or ABS on snow/ice.

Dry pavement handling seems equivalent to the all-seasons. I put Blizzaks on my wife's minivan last winter and there was a decrease in dry pavement handling, but no such problem with the Goodyear Ultra Grip. Blizzaks WS-60 are OK for a minivan, but I would never put them on the type-S. Blizzak LM-25 would probably be better, but are more expensive than Goodyear.

Goodyear snows have a little bit more road noise (low drone) and slightly harsher ride compared to all seasons, but overall I am quite pleased. I got them on the 5-spoke MSW alloys from Tire Rack which look close to non-S-type stock rims.

With S-type you need to get snows on alloys because steel wheels won't fit over the large front brake calipers. Not sure if there are steel wheels available for standard TL.

I ended up going with Michelin X-Ice Xi2. After reading several reviews and tests this years michelin performed better in tests than the blizzaks.

I've had two sets of Dunlop Garspic DS2s on different cars. They were awesome. Now I'm running the Blizzak LM-25. Not too excited. I did move up to an 18" rim so maybe they are wider than stock? It is the only winter tire I've had on the car so maybe it's because I have nothing to compare them to. I just bought the package from Tire Rack.

So now I just don't drive much in the winter. I did get some new Nokians and they work great:
