Question Are Pirelli tires Noisy???

Gang,
I am leaning toward the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires for my TL.
I spoke with a custom shop and the owner stated that all of his customers that put Pirelli on their vehicles (regardless of vehicle) came back complaing they created too much road noise.

To all of you that went with Pirelli, how did they compare with EL 42s for noise? Are they louder than you thought they should be?

I read the reviews on tirerack and they had a excellant rating for low noise. I am confused.

Thanks,
Michael

PS. I don't want to go get them and then end up with

Hey guys,

I've had my Zeros for just under 5K miles, since early August, and they still are quieter than the Turanzas ever were. And I thought the Turanzas were pretty quiet, for at least the first half of the 26K I ran them for. If other Zero owners pipe in, I bet they give you the same evaluation on noise.

It may be that the tire dealer you spoke with was not referring specifically to the P-Zero Nero model -- other Pirellis definitely have reputations (among TireRack reviewers) for lots of road noise. From my research on tires, the Zeros are the only Pirellis I'd buy (other than winter tires, maybe).

Late thought:

I lurk in the tires area here a lot, and know there are many threads about the Zeros and how well or not well liked they are in here. A search *should* locate these, but maybe not. Don't wanna assume y'all didn't do that...

I have < 3,000 miles on my PZeroNeros. I'm very happy with feel and sound quality. They are much quieter than the EL42s.

I do know people who have had Pirellis and said they started to get loud when they were hitting the end of their life span (other models, not necessarily the Zeros). Can't attest to that on mine since they're so new.

They produce more noise than the EL 42's but the are also much better tires -- wet, dry or on snow. After I got rid of the El42's, I put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's on for 25k miles. They are very, very good tires and grip extremely well in all conditions. I was only really unhappy with the amount of noise that the A/S's produce -- especially as they neared their end-of-life.

Bottom line is that tires are trade-offs. The Pirellis are better tires that grip better. they will be noiser than the crappy-- non-grippy -- EL's. All in all, I think they're pretty quiet though.

I replaced my EL 42's with the PZero's about 2 weeks ago. Had 23K on the EL 42's and had treadwear left, but was hydroplaning like crazy. I think the PZero's are much quieter than the worn EL 42's, and just as quiet if not quieter than the EL 42's were when new. Performance and grip is improved by far. I'm very pleased with my decision, and I think you will be too.

Owned a set of P7000's. Very noisy and the worst tire wear. I'll never buy them again.

I have the Pzeros ... They tramline a bit too much for my taste. I almost feel like I need to get better suspension for this car. I have still almost hydroplaned as well (but these were HUGE puddles going like 55 mph). They are MUCH better than the stockers. For my money though ... I will be getting the Pilots next time.

Wow! Great tire.

To all,

Thanks for all the input. I had my P Zero Neros put on last Friday and the difference between them and the EL-42s was noticeable right away. These are much quieter and more comfortable. I wish I would have done this sooner.
Thanks again!

I've put 20K miles on my P Zero Nero's and I LOVE them. I think they are quieter than the EL42's, and regardless they are a thousand times safer than the EL42s.

anyone tries the FIRESTONE WIDE OVAL

The Firestone Wide Oval look identical like the RE750 from brigstone and costs a few bucks cheaper but suppose to be quieter than the RE750. They are 2 lbs heavier and they have 320 threadware instead of 340 like RE750

A bit too late for the original poster (he already bought the tires). But, a few months ago I put on PZero Nero's to replace the stock tires. I had about 12K or so on them. Still had SOME tread but, was getting near the end. Was not confident in the tires in the rain.

Anyway I really like the Pzero Nero's too. The whole car seems quieter. And it handles allot better then the stock tires. I feel more confident in these tires then I ever did in the stock tires.

I was looking at the Toyo's too but, couldn't find a dealer that had them in stock at a decent price locally. One could order it but, they would cost slightly more then the Pzero's which I could get installed at a local shop that day.

P Zeros

Replaced both the EL's on my car and the P600's on my wife's V70 T5 with the Zeros and actually much quieter. Seen post about getting bubbles in the sidewalls with the zero's but when I discussed with the tire rack they never mentioned it. Have about 10k on the T5 and 6l on the TL and no flat spotting. I travel a lot so the car has been left in the garage and at the airport and haven't had any flat spotting problems.
