Painting OEM Rims Flat or Matte Black

So my stock rims have been sticking in the garage since I put my Ronjon's on and I have a little bit of free time and decided that I will paint them flat black. I will be following the DIY located in another thread but I don't want to use Dupli-colors wheel color of flat black. So far the rims have been cleaned and one of them has been sanded down.

For those who have painted there stock rims, what did you use for your flat black. I really don't want a glossy black finish. I want it to be more of a flat black or matte black color. Thanks!

I know some members used engine/high temp flat black paint on their stockies...make sure to get the high temp cuz the brakes give off a good amount of heat.

any reason why you dont want to use the duplicolor wheel coat?

I would but the Dupli-color wheel coating doesnt include Flat or Matte Black. These are the only colors they carry:

HWP100 White
HWP101 Silver
HWP102 Graphite
HWP103 Clear
HWP104 Satin Black
HWP105 Bronze

I would go with the Satin Black. They would be easier to clean that way as well compared to the Flat Black.

I would go with Satin Black as well. Flat black would just make them look really dirty

^^^ Triple word.

I would do Satin Black. Flat finish in blacks looks crappy most of the time. Someone did their whole entire grille in flat back and looks horrible. Definitely go will a satin finish. The 3 main, non full-gloss finishes are:

- Flat or Matte (same thing) dull as hell
- Satin a slight sheen look, between flat & semi gloss
- Semi-Gloss a partial medium glossy surface finish

The forum has spoken!

I picked up a couple of cans of the Dupli-color Satin Black that I will use for the face of the rims. Can't seem to find anymore at auto shops within a 20 mile radius, so I picked up 3 cans of Rustoleum Wheel Flat Black for the insides of the rims. Pictures will be posted soon.

Definitely not a 2 hour job. In between washing and sanding I already have three hours into it. Just for 2 rims!
