Pads and rotors

So I went for a routine maintenance at my local dealer, and I knew I needed to get brakes soon, but they said I need to change them as soon as possible. And the quoted me $691, including $270 for Acura pads and to resurface the rotors. Which I think is ridiculous. Now I have changed may brakes before but not like the brimbo on my type s. So I was wondering what I should do. I have just started looking and researching on this, but I noticed that XLR8 has rotor and pad packages for like 3 to 4 hundred bucks, which is a lot better that 7. But my question is what is the difference between drilled and slotted and what not, besides just for ventilation. What would you guys recommend and do any of you have these packages form XLR8, and how good are they and how do they hold up. Thanks
