Is it OK to do 235/45 in the front and 245/45 in the rear on stock 17"?

Will I have any problem with the following setup- 235/45 (pilot sport A/S+) in the front and 245/45 (Bridgestone Re960) in the rear on stock 17" wheels? My rear tires are due shortly and I am getting a sweet deal on the RE 960's (245/45/17). Any input on whether it is going to effect my Electronics or other systems is appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Won't make any difference. But I would recommend changing all the tires out at the same time to the same brand and model.

Agreed, but my fronts are brand new (<1k miles) and do not want to remove them. Also I am getting the 2 RE960s (245/45s) never mounted for $200 and hence thinking about it. I hope my traction control n Nav etc won'b be effected by the setup .

I'd say you're 50/50. On my G Coupe, I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the front and RE960 in the back, and my stability control kept trippin' out every time I took mild curves. It would brake my front corner, actually CAUSING the tail to step out. In my case, I went from/to the same size tire... Only thing I could come up with, was that the RE960AS for the same size spec wise, was actually 1/10" of an inch taller/shorter (I can't remember which). I ended up buying RE960AS for my fronts, even tho my fronts still had > 1/2 the treads left.

But that was a different car, so I don't know... What I do know, is that our TL has new RE960AS on the fronts, and bald RE960AS on the rears, and I haven't had any VSA/ABS problems, so maybe the G was just sensitive, I don't know.... I'd replace my rears, but I'm getting 19" wheels on wednesday....

Just to add... In my case, my fronts were 1% smaller than stock and my rears were 0.1% bigger than stock, so I figured the 1/10" difference between the two brands of tires tripped up my stability control, not sure... But I always heard the rule of thumb is to stay within 3% of stock rollin size....

245/45-17 is 5.3% different from stock...

I'm telling you, it won't make a lick of difference. Our cars are front wheel drive and the VSA only controls the front wheels. The rears are just along for the ride.

Anyways, I believe it won't make any difference. If anything, it may just look a tad bit off (speaking completely cosmetically), since they are two different tires, treads, and sizes.

Lke I said, that's why I pointed out it was a different car (and RWD at that) that I had those issues, and pointed out that I have bald tires on back and new tires on front of our TL, and it appears to be fine... Not sure how well the 245/45-17 would look tho, cuz the sidewall would look considerably bigger than the fronts...

How soon you need your tires? Cuz when I mount my 19s in like 2 weeks or so, I'll be getting rid of my current 17" tires. They are RE960AS 235/45-17, and two of them are practically new. One is like 3 weeks old and the other like 3 months old. If you pay for shipping, I'd prob be willing to give the 2 good ones to you for free.

It will some difference. Larger tires in the rear will increase understeer. Since our cars are FWD, for better performance, larger tires in the front would provide that.

@avs007 I really appreciate your help with it and I think I'l take it. My tires should hold for more than a month . AZine rocks, I have been on Benz and Audi forums and never ever received such an overwhelmed response from the co members. Cheers to all!

Can't ask for a better offer.
I would be concerned with the ABS, but am not certain as to the difference in wheel RPM that causes the factory system to kick in.

Just to add the difference is only 1.41% 235/245.

For tire rotation purpose, I would keep all the same size.

You would be mixing not only separate heights, but 2 totally different tread patterns.

The rear would not react the same as the fronts in handling or braking.

The problem will probably get worse in the wet.

IMO, keep all the tires the same
