Is it OK to change 235/45 tp 235/50 for softer ride?

I need to change my tires soon on my 06 TL and thinking of getting another profile. Will 235/50 looks OK and drives a bit softer? Thanks

from my perspective, no it is not okay to change to 235/50/17 from the factory 235/45/17.

Reasons why:
1. Fit, I doubt the tire will fit properly in the wheel well
2. Speedometer, when you are going 60 in life, it'll display 57.8 which is more than 3% off.
3. Odometer, since the odometer relies on speed and time, it'll be off as well
4. Power, by putting on a larger sized tire, you will be losing some power as it'll take more torque to drive a larger wheel.
5. Tire choice, with the factory size you have a lot wider selection than with the 235/50

If you want a softer ride, may I suggest that instead of the factory high performance tires that you get some grand touring ones.

Want a softer ride, might try a different tire. Have not tried, nor am I endorsing the Continental DWS, but many state that it offers a smooth ride as the construction is on the light side and the sidewalls are soft. Want to spend a little more, look at the Michelin Exalto A/S. It has a 94 load rating and that is higher than the factory tire, but with a H speed rating, yo're limited to 130MPH which I doubt you'll exceed. I have the V rated Exalto's on my dgaughter's Maxima and also our 2008 knock around vehicle. Great tire.

for a slightly smoother ride

if the wheel is a 17" you can however do 245/45
if the wheel is a 18" you can however do 245/40
if the wheel is a 19" you can however do 245/35

Do the 17" do 245/45 17s......

COntinental do not bother..
Try the Yokohamas I have now installed the Bridgstone potenzas
the YOkos might be softer...

If you go with the 235 50 17s...YOur tire will be taller. YOUr speedometer Will be a little off, BUT you will travel farther and actually will record less mileage on your car.

Top speed will increase.
Low End at a light will not be as quick with taller tires.

Discount tire Direct.com

great deals.

None of the tires on the "standard touring" list are made in the size you need.

Quite a few of the tires in the "grand touring" list aren't either.

Of the tires on that list that are available for your car the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity is by far and away the best. Nothing else even comes close. That will be the next tire going on my wife's TL when she decides on some new wheels.

Just curious as to why someone would want a $227 undersized tire on their vehicle, and although the same skinny size as the 960, it has an overall lower rating. The 235 Btidgestone's have only a 7.8" tread width, and is far and away one of the is smallest. even my daughter's 225 Michelins are wider that the 235 Serenity.

As you might tell, I'm certainly not a fan of Bridgestone's, so once again just my

One recommendation I always harp on is to replace the tires with a 245/45-17 size.
