what tires? you might rub a wee bit on hard turns and very bumpy roads if you use the standard 225/40 size. hard turns are can controlled, but roads cannot. they still fit and will not stick out of fender.

You will have to use low profile tires if you gonna use 18x7.5 rims.
a +45 offset and 225/40/18 is the ideal.

would a 18x7 with 42 offset be MORE or LESS subject to rubbing than a 18x7.5 with 45 offset?

Read my sig.

Also all you have to do is get your fender trimmed. Most wheel shops have the machine and it looks clean.

the 18x7.5/45 has 3mm more fender lip and bumper tab clearance than 18x7.5/42. the 45 offset wheels should be cool but most times it's the tire that rubs. you can get a chunky tire and cause as much or little rubbing as the 42 offset wheels...tire brands can differ greatly. or if you decide to go with a wider tire than suggested for that rim width, then you could also rub. even if you only get an OK offset, rubbing most times occurs on the bumper tab and not the metal fender lip...just trim it. low offsets can and will rub the metal lip if you are low enough and/or hit bad bumps...this is when you will need to roll or shave/cut off the lip.

i have the 18x7.5/42 with 225/40 on eibach prokits (2.1f, 1.8r), and i rubbed a little on hard turns and really rough roads. a loaded car rubbed less since the added weight probably cambered the wheels even more (and thus increasing the fender lip clearance). then i added the rear camber kit and i rubbed a little more than before. i ended up trimming the bumper tab only. i can live with the little and infrequent rubbing that i have.

Question Rubbing or not

Want to upgrade to 18/7.5 and 225/40s from stock Type S wheels. Presently have HnR Sport springs. What can I expect for ride diff and will I have an offset or rubbing problem? Thanks
