Arrow New tires for my 2007 TL Type S - pricing out on what I need...

Greetings fellow Acura enthusiasts!

Long time stalker of the board, but unfortunately not recently...

I was hoping to reach out to your guys first before I spent 1K or whatever on new tires.

I've got about 32K on my stock sets of Michilens and about due for a new set. I would love to get more then 32K out of new set, but I don't want to lose anything that comes with the performance and stability that they have given me.

I recently visited Costco (they have a special right now $70 off 4 new tires) and they have informed me that the following tire has replaced what is currently on my car.

Pilot Sport A/S Plus
235/45ZR17 94Y PS AS+
Ultra High Performance
45,000 mile warranty
$200.08 each, plus the $15 to install each of these, and what ever other fees they charge. $800 Plus, I am sure

A friend of mine suggested the Yokohama YK520 235/45R-17 97V XL B. At almost 1/2 the price.. and have a Mileage Warranty:
60,000 miles. But what about the ride? Sounds like a deal? thoughts? Any other suggestions?
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...5&rd=17&cs=235

I am really looking for the best value/quality for the price..... I just need to figure out exactly how much cash I will need to spend TOTAL, and if the Tire Pressure Sensors are really needed to be replaced, rebuilt or should I even worry about them?

Does the dealership/tire stores push you to replace the tire pressure sensors, or are these part of the cars original warranty? Curious if this is really something critical to replace. I mean if its mandatory then no problem. Any suggestions on the best prices for OEM tire pressure sensor equipment, if this is the case?

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this!

Wow, 32K on 07 TL-S, mine is merely 26K... I was told the other day, that my thread are like half down, so, I would say, probably another 10K or more before getting new tires.

I currently have high performance summer tire, but I'm considering moving to Costco's Michelin Pilot® Sport PS2™, instead of Michelin - Pilot® Sport A/S Plus, I don't like the thread design on Sport A/S Plus.

I like Costco, cuz, they offer Nitro to the wheels, and there's one Costco almost everywhere in case need to fix a nail.

However, are my stock Bridgestone Potenza RE030 better than Michelin Pilot Sport PS2?

I gotta the Pilot Sport AS Plus is a HUGE step up from the stock MXM4 tire.

They are costly though. If you can get a good deal, when added with the Tread Life Warranty, they are worth it. None of the top contenders (in the same class) offers a 45k treadlife warranty.

What's the difference between Pilot Sport PS2 and Pilot Sport A/S Plus?

Besides, thread design, and Plus has 45K miles warranty, I see no other differences.

Has anybody used any of those both?

How's compared to Bridgestone Potenza RE030?

Pilot Sport PS2 is a summer tire, Pilot Sport AS Plus is an all season. The PS2 should be stickier, but less tread life.

Bridgestone 960 AS is also well regarded. #1 tire in the category according to Tire Rack Survey's. Only reason I didn't get them is because my local tire shop price matched the Michelin to the 960's --> Saved $20 or $30 per corner off the normal Michelin price.

So, if I have Bridgestone Potenza 030 (which I was told those are high performance summer tire, it was US$ 200 extra when I bought my TL-S).

When my thread are worn out, and if I want to stick with summer tire, do I go with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, right?

I don't think Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is as wide as Bridgestone Potenza 030, am I right?

I went to both Michelin and Bridgetsone website.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 UDOT is 220 AA A, overall diameter is 25.4", section width is 9.3", thread width is N/A, thread depth is 9.5"

Bridgestone Potenza 030 UDOT is 140 AA A, overall diameter is 25.5", overall section width is 9.4", thread width is 8.3", thread depth is 10"

By the way,

current tires are 235/45/R17, are the stock TL-S rim suitable for 245/45/R17?

I'v e got 245/45-17 on my stock TL-S rims. Fit is fine. The 245/45 is about 5mm (iirc) taller sidewall - they look a little big at first, but you get used to it pretty quick.

You may want to consider 255/40-17. Wider tire = more contact patch. Overall diameter is slightly smaller than stock.

Pilot Sport PS2 vs BS RE030 - . I know the Michelin is well regarded, but I've never driven them or shopped them.

I posted this in another thread, anybody looking for a 245/45-17 Summer Tire, jump on the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R from Tire Rack with the 2005 production date. Never had them, but for $78 each, can't be beat.
Section width 9.6, tread width 9.1.

If an all season tire is wanted Yohohama W4s $119.
Section width 9.7, tread width 9.2. I believe the widest available, but don't look for much traction in snow.

Tires should be replaced every 2 years.
4 years old tires sitting in a warehouse are worth nothing to me

You have no idea what your talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ever check the dates on the tires you've purchased in the past?
Think Tire Rack would sell tires that self destruct when installed on a vehicle?

Most manufacturers will cover their product 5 years from the date of production.
Geez, I guess my Yokohama Advan S.4's should be scrapped now as they were produced February 2007.
Better tell the wife not to drive the car.

There's no sense in talking to you if you firmly believe that all tires should be scrapped 2 years after production date. It's rediculous.

How about the British Tyre Industry Council that issued an unprecedented warning that previously unused tires should not be sold if they were more than 6 years old, and that all tires should be replaced 10 years after their manufacture.
That's not my opinion, that's a fact, so better take it up with them.
Actually the US gives no limitation dates for sale or replacement.

How often do you replace your tires?

Please don't consider this to be a smart reply, but I replace them when they wear out, as I certainly don't base the life expectancy on the manufacturing date.
The time of replacement varies based on the miles driven per year.
In our garage:

Modified RX7 has had the same Toyo Proxes on the front since 2003, but the backs have been replaced 3 times.

The TL is only driven about 7K per year, so the S4's (12K) will be on there for quite some time as they still show as new.

Our 2008 run around vehicle is a year old and has 24K on the tires and they look great. They will be replaced next month with chrome wheels and new tires, but the OE set will be put back on in November for the winter, and the cycle begins.
