New tire recommendations for 05 TL (stock)

New tire recommendations for 05 TL (stock)
I bought a used 2005 TL which had 4 Bridgestone Potenza G009's on it. They are now worn to about 4/32" and are horribly LOUD.
I'm thinking about these as replacements and am curious about the community's thoughts. I've read TireRack reviews until I'm blue in the face, but I trust this community's thoughts more.
I'm a spirited driver but do have a daily 80 mile commute on the interstate so while I love grip I want quiet tires. I recently drove a 2009 TL loaner and the OEM tires were ultra-quiet.
Considering...
Thanks to everyone in advance. I need to buy a set within the next few days before a trip.

Considering...
- Bridgestone Potenza 960AS Pole Position
- Bridgestone Turanza Serenity
- Kumho Ecsta ASX
Thanks to everyone in advance. I need to buy a set within the next few days before a trip.

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sports PS2's in the front. Quiet and good grip. Wear about every 15,000 miles but pricey. I;m running Falken's on the rear and they have been quiet also. No complaints. Thinking about Falkens on the front as well b/c of price over another set of Mich PS2's.

now mind you i drive like a lunatic i tried the Kumho Ecsta ASX last year and in 27000 miles one just blew up last week another had a huge gash on the inside tread and steel belts where all showing and a third tire had steel belts poking out, thank god sears decided to take care of me and allow me to return them under the manufacturers warranty so i got good year eagle gt's and omg its night and day better handeling i highly recomend sears will price match online ads so i got the good years for 107 each and the khumos prorated value of 66 per tire off made for a sweet deal.

Take a look at the Yokohama W4s. IMHO a great tire for a reasonable price and you'll find that the tread width is the widest that's made in each size. I purchased Yoko S.4 245/45-17, just about the time the W4s was coming into the market. The S.4 is a great all around tire, but more pricey. When I need tires next time it'll be the W4s.

I have the 960 Potenzas in the 245/45/17 size and am very happy with them. They are VERY smooth and quiet and offer good grip and handling for an all season tire. They're also incredible in the rain, but they're not spectacular in the snow. I'm sure the wider size has much to do with that. I did lose a couple MPG with them, and if I had to do it again, I'd probably try the Yoko Advan S4, which is the other tire I was considering. Really no regrets though, especially since gas is currently only a little more than half what it was last summer. They are a little pricey; I think I paid around $168 each at the Tire Rack, but they're lightyears ahead of the stock Turanzas in all regards.

Thanks. I live in Nashville and was considering the S.4's as well since talking to a guy this afternoon. He mentioned the S.4's weren't a fan of ANY snow at all. Being where I live, I do need true all-season (in the next 72 hours here it'll be 55 and sunny, 65 and flooding rains, then 19 and snow).

You can save yourself some $$$ and get the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S's. I'm on my 2nd set and I'm hooked.

I have no faith in the rating system after seeing the BFG KDW-2 ratied good in noise. Those were the absolutely loudest tires I've ever heard outside of lifted trucks with mud tires. Passengers used to ask me what was wrong with my car and the radio wouldn't overcome the tire noise. I ate it and got rid of them after 12,000 miles with tons of tread left because I couldn't stand them any more.

Ehh, you'll be fine with the 960's. I live just east of Syracuse, NY. We average around 120 inches of snow a year. They're really not that bad once I get going, but on a hill I have to turn off the VSA in order to get some revs, otherwise I don't go anywhere. Of course, I have a company car and don't drive the TL a ton, so maybe if I did I'd want something better for snow. The Continental Extreme something or other is supposedly the best all season tire for snow, but its dry weather performance isn't so great.
i moved from syracuse NY to charlotte about 7 months ago great place, i miss the snow and hell yeah they get TONS of snow!!!
