New Tire Purchase - Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Hi all.

I don't want to beat a broken horse, and did search but want a clear cut decisive opinion here.

I just put winter tires on a few weeks ago, but will order tires over the next 2 months in preparation for summer. Does anyone have a photo with a TL using these tires, and are they a good bang for the buck? I'm not trying to break the bank, and yet these look pretty decent, review well.

(No need to throw out 10 other tire suggestions, just trying to pick out a Dunlop Specific tire)

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Thanks in advance for your input / experience on them.

I might add that, my other alternative was this:

Dunlop Direzza DZ101

So feel free to offer experiences on the two, again, any images or first hand knowledge on these two tires will be a great help, so thank you!

I have the Direzza DZ101 on my TL and I hate them. They feel slippery and loose since new. They're also on the small side, so if you're on aftermarket rims, they're less likely to rub.

I recently bought a set of 18" Kumho SPT for my Accord and these tires feel light years better than the DZ101. Very sticky, even in rain, gives you good feedback through the steering wheel, has better on-center feel. I feel they're going to be noisy in the long run though.

Thanks for the tidbit... from what I'm seeing also the DZ101's don't balance well at all. Lord knows I've already had a set on my car that took 3 appointments of re-balancing and they still vibrated like a shuttle take-off over 60mph.

I'll check out the ones you mentioned, and will so far stick to the Sport Z1's.

My DZ101 is perfectly balanced but I had to use the road-force balancing.

That's another thing, my Kumho SPT balanced perfectly the first time around without road force balancing. But it's possibly because they're 18" and not 19". The less the sidewall, the harder the tire to be vibration free because there's less rubber to absorb it.

Do you have a large closeup with these Kumho Ecsta SPT's on your car? They aren't bad looking.. and the price is amazingly cheap.

Sorry, no pics yet. I believe trancemission is running these on his 19", he might be able to post his pics.

A friend of mine put the SPT on an 06 325i and the car rides much better compared to the OEM runflat tires.

Are you on aftermarket rims? The Kumhos are on the large side compared to Pirellis or Dunlops of the same size.

I'm still very interested in the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's so, I may go with those.. and put them on over spring. (order 2 now, 2 more in a few weeks) Since there is no rush, it actually will save some finances doing it this way.
