Talking New Falken ST-115's - Excellent so far!

Just an update on my tire situation. I couldn't stand my EL-42's so I traded them in on some Falken ST-115's in 245/45/17. With just a few miles on tham I can vouch for others in that these are truly the quietest tires ever made. They feel so much better than the BS's I cannot beleive it.

My question is this. Does anyone know what the official lug nut torque is for the standard wheels on a 6MT (with Brembos)? I don't want to run into any rotor warpage issues.

Thanks,

Stu E.

Someone who has run their Falken for months or thousands of miles, how's about your tires now? Can we have some reports, please?

Thanks.

Good morning rets....I don't have them personally, but ALL of my friends run the Falkens, most run 115 the rest run the 541 (or 451 or something like that). They all swear by these tires, hence the fact that they will be on my rims when they arrive.

Falken ST-115

I got them at America's Tire/Discount Tire for $128 per tire, out the door. Taxes, mounting balancing, road hazard, etc.

What is difference between the Falken STt-115 and the 512's, besides the Z-rating for the ST-115's and the W-rating for the 512's? Is the ST-115 all-season a well as the 512's?
I have the LS-Z's which are Z-rated and find they are firmer-riding and not really any quieter than the W-rated EL-42's. They do handle some what better though, guess stiffer sidewall. The EL-42's and LS-Z's are in touring classification versus the ST-115's Ultra- High performance.
I tend to like a quiet, not too firm riding tire. I know you stated the ST-115's
are really quiet. How do you find the ride comfort compared to the EL-42's?
I haven't really heard any reports from posters if Falkens have any flatspotting issues. My LS-Z's flatspot, regardless of temperature (have noticed as warm as 65 degrees) when not driven for a day or so.
It would be interesting to see if anyone experiences any flatspotting with the Falkens when not driven a few days.

The 512s are all-seasons. The 115s are performance summer tires.

I really haven't noticed any flatspottig with these tires yet. I can say that they are still unbelievably quiet and make the entire car feel completely different. I had all but decided to just live with the EL-42's, but at the last minute I thought I would just check out the ST-115's. One hour later, after getting them Road Force balanced and installed I had them on the car. They definately look much better than the BS's.

To me the car is MUCH LESS darty and just feels more planted. The steering, which has always felt somewhat light to me, now feels nicely weighted and more akin to my 98 A4. Toque steer seems more controlled as well. Overall, the best investment I have made for this car yet.

The only question now is how long with they last!?!?!?!

Good luck,

Stu,
I took your advice as well as numerous others who have recommended the st 115's . I chose those for my summer tires, because everyone who has written about them has reapeatedly said that they are extremely quiet. Which makes sense for the summertime when you have all the windows down.

I got 245/35 ZR 19's for my soon to arrive new wheels. I paid around $189 per tire. I could have gotten them cheaper ( www.hptires.net ) but needed this wheel company to mount the tires to not void the warranty.

Good luck,

When getting your Falkens Road Force balanced did you happen to see what the pounds of force per tire was? I had the dealer balance mine (I should say try to balance) on the Road Force, the machine was new and they didn't have a clue how to operate it. They did a Road Force on the front two tires and they had 25 and 20 pounds of force each. Which sounds high, according to the Hunter website, some new sensitive vehicles 15 pounds of force is too much and cause vibration. From what I have read best is try to get under 15 pounds. The service guys just left mine like they were, didn't rotate the tire on wheel to the postion for less force. I'm still trying to find a reputable person who knows how to use the machine and is willing to spend a few extra minutes to break the tire/wheel down and place the tire on the wheel in the best postion to get the lowest possible pounds of force.

Road Force Balance

Yes I did in fact. The two up front are less than 10 each and the two in the back were 12 and 13 respectively.

I was very happy with their work although they lightly scratched one wheel and are replacing it with a new one on Saturday.

I went to Discount/Americas Tire in Fullerton CA, by the way.

Good luck,
