Need summer tires-what r u running?

im looking for new tires for my 19s summer setup 245/40/19 , 225/40/19

im in the price range of michellin super sports or nitto tires, ive driven with michellin super sports on my fathers E63 amg and there fantastic

but there expensive and if i can find the same tire traction from a more track focused tire company id be happy

i ran invos...loved them sticky quiet and comfy. (mine were 245/35/19)BUT Ive never had Michelin super ports...so I cant compare the two.....wait...are u wanting to run these sizes on an accord?!? if so, they will be too big..go with a 245/35/19..They will big on a 3g TL for that matter.

Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions. Love them on my M5. Had their predecessor tires on my TL and loved them there as well.

nitto nt05

These tires run a little narrow it looks like. I haven't had a chance to measure tread or overall width yet but there's less bulge on the sidewalls than the old tires. Tread is pretty flat and goes right up to the sidewall.

Previous tires were BFG G-force KDW-2 and BFG G-force Sports also in the 255-40-17.

First thing I noticed was they're so much quieter. There's no rumble anymore, just a very slight higher pitched noise at 50+mph but as quiet as stock. So far so good on road noise but I'll write back after I put 5,000 miles on them.

I haven't taken them to the limit, I want to get a few heat cycles in them so they're at maximum grip first. I did envoke ABS twice and they're very promising. Braking is the best I've had so far, my friend started laughing because it stopped so quick. I'll get actual numbers soon.

One thing stands out, they soak up sharp impacts better than the Sports but they have crisper turn in and response. I personally haven't driven a car with a tire of this caliber before.

Tramlining and instability under braking is completely gone. Sections of road that I drove over everyday where I would have to hold the wheel tight and correct the steering when it went over an unever surface no longer cause problems. This was before I got an alignment.

I took some low speed corners stupid fast, where the old tires would slip and these showed no signs of giving up.

Very promising so far but I'm going to wait until the weekend to find out what they're capable of. I have very high hopes for these. I'll have actual braking measurements to compare to the other tires and I'll have times around my "course" to compare soon.

And last, they look like a full race tire. When my friend saw them, the first words out of his mouth were holy crap. The ex saw them and gave me a dirty look and said they look like a full race tire. They do, from a distance they look like a slick with a couple lines cut down the center.

here's his newest post today. quite interesting.

I'm wasn't driving unfortunetely but my friend pulls up next to the guy and his girl and we're at perfect speed. The GTR ignores up but keeps slowing down way before the green light that's up ahead. It didn't take long to realize what he was doing. He wanted to go from a dead stop. You can only give the CL about 1/4 throttle in first gear and if it spins too much the TC kicks in and it takes a couple seconds to get back to full throttle.

So we're stopped and waiting for the green. That was the last red light on the outskirts of town, nothing but open highway in front of us. GTR gets out on us as expected but we got a good launch as well. By 70mph we were beside him. A little higher up and we pulled about 2 cars. He let off and made a turn onto some undeveloped side street to turn around and we coasted to let the turbos and intercoolers cool off in case we ended up running again.

So Mercedes 1, GTR 0. That Mercedes is no joke from a roll, the V12 has great torque but the top end is unreal for a factory lightly modded car. Never got to talk to the GTR guy but it was a different one than I raced a while back. I guess we have two in town now.

yeah he spoke very highly of them but they might be too aggressive for normal street use with pothole

I daily drive on them.
and isnt that what you asked for?

that was freshly mounted. they dont look like that any more.

you asked for a better tire than what you're currently driving on.
I have the answer.

plus, I dont think your accord has the LSD.
Do you want better turning and grip?

Second place under someone's rating system? Be careful here, those are pretty subjective measures. I discussed this with tire people who, as part of a demo, rode in identical cars - one with the Michelins, the other with the Pole Positions - guess which one performed better and was less expensive?

All I can tell you is this - I took a 4,000 pound car through 1,400 mountain twists and turns on these tires at higher-than-advisable speeds, and came tearing out with 500hp pushing me back into the seat and the tires didn't protest once.

no LSD , whats your driving habits like?..
the NT05 so far have popped up more than any other tire so far only problem is they wear out at 20 thousand miles?

EDIT: i do realize for ultimate grip you sacrifice tread life

they are great tires i spoke to fast in my post , im thinking of fwd grip and i kno the ford focus RS in europe has the michellins and i remember they took a beating and perform great

i gotta do some more research and choose a tire like that but in some way im leaning to the nittos right now but i only know of 3 high performance tires

michellin ss , nitto nt05 and the potenzas

^Is it? What about that curb or lawn that you got into? Lol! J/K! They probably were not Up to operating temperature yet.........Hope you get ur TL back soon!

Op- Maybe the Potenza RE760 sports? Quite good tires, but I only got 25K out of my last set.

Star Specs are much better than those Michelins in grip and overall handling and dynamics. They are noisy however.

Your Michelins are equal to the Nitto Invo. A good tire but not in the same league performance wise as the Star Specs and NT05.

NT05 is a street tire. I'm not sure what you meant earlier about real life and potholes. I've already posted that the ride is very good for a tire in this category while maintaining great turn-in and feel. it's still a firm ride but every tire in this category will give you a firm ride.

I'm not sure why you would have Star Specs and not the NT05 on your list since they're just about the only two in this category. They're very close in grip, NT05 is quieter, NT05 holds up better under track conditions, NT05 comes with less tread and will wear at about the same rate meaning it will wear out quicker, NT05 is cheaper. Another thing I like is they screech but only at the limit so you know right before they break away.

From the quote above with the Mercedes on these tires, they fall short of a drag radial but they do hold up with 700hp and a 4,500lb curb weight. This car at 50mph on regular tires would do an actual burnout if you just punched it to the floor. On the NT05 they screech a little and will leave two faint black lines but the car doesn't just blow them away, it mostly hooks.

For me it was a tough decision between the Star Specs and NT05. The noise is what made me choose the Nittos.

Why would you suggest the DWS when he's looking for a summer tire?

I just read that link and there's some serious bad information. I've run several of the tires ranked and it's very off. That info looks to be based on opinion because it surely can't be based on fact.

^^ I respect your knowledge you give me the vibe that u legit know what your talking about ..

The Nittos seem to be the winner but 20 thousand miles I want nt05 performance with 30thousand miles , even 25thousamd miles .. U think those numbers are achieved if driven properly

EDIT. They should last there mounted from June-early November so 5-6 months

I really think the Nittos r my choice ... There much cheaper than the Michellin and I don't think I'd feel like I'm getting 1300 dollars worth the traction

yeah if you drive like a freakin grandma.
whats the point of getting high performance tires, if you dont use them?

the one thing I dont do with them is burn out. fwd ftl, and i dont want it to eat the front tires.
but I corner hard and stop hard. its fun

I wish I could say it's possible to get 30k out of them but there's no way even with all freeway miles. 25k, maybe but it's a stretch.

The other thing you may want to consider against the NT05 is temperature. The NT05 works ok down to freezing but I wouldn't drive them below that. If you get caught in light snow, you're in trouble. Wet traction is excellent but standing deep water is also not their strong point because they're not real good at channeling water away.

If you want a tire with about the same grip that you might be able to get 30k or more out of, the Star Specs might be for you.

I could be wrong about the mileage on the NT05, I posted it somewhere on this site when I swapped out my first set, I'll search and figure it out.

Star specs don't come in 19s :/

If I use logic yes 20thousand miles but since there mounted for5 month periods and than taken off I could get 1.5-2years which to me Is completely fine

Softer rubber in theory will always get worse gas mileage but you also have less sidewall flex than a stock tire and I would put more weight on sidewall flex reducing mileage than rubber compound. At worst you would break even. Mine still easily gets 32mpg on the freeway and I'm running a 255. I didn't notice a difference.

There are many other good tires out there. Some of the ones listed already in this tread are very good. If you don't want the absolute best performance in a street tire, some of the others will do well.

Well of cousre if you put more weight on the sidewall that it will cause more sidewall flex

Just joking. Just another great pun from IHC.

the WHEELS don't matter, the tire size is too big for the CAR. U can do what u want, we gave u the heads up tho.

Stock size on your accord is what?...225/50/17 I believe? That size has an OD of 25.85. The 245/40/19 has an OD of 26.71. That's almost a full one inch bigger. 3.22% larger. Any time u "inch up" it's recommended to stay under a 3% increase for safety reasons...braking, abs, traction, speedo...etc. Research for yourself if u don't believe me.

Not to mention the aesthetics, it will look funny/too big. Just sum food for thought man.

*edit. I checked tire rack, and they say The 245/40/19 is the recommended size...idk tho. I wouldn't do it IMO. I would and did run a 245/35/19

An inch is a lot but it's probably ok. As long as all tires are the same diameter ABS, traction control, and stability control will be fine. Speed will read slightly slow. I believe the navi models can correct for this but not completely sure. I found a screen where it had tire diameter and a +-% and it corresponded almost perfectly with the diameter I was running.
