Need new tires (any suggsestions)

Hey guys, I have an '06 tl (with TPMS and) with Michellin Pilots. The problem is they are already worn down at 28,000 miles and it's time for new tires.

Do you guys recommmend choosing these again or go with something diifferent, and if so, which ones?

I would recomment the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions. They are much quieter than the Pilots that came on our TL, and handle much better, both wet and dry.

They are rated MUCH better in the snow... The pilots that came on the TL blow in the snow. Even my RWD G35 wearing All/Season tires faired better in the snow than our TL did.

I haven't driven the Potenzas in the snow yet, but they were rated higher than the Conti Extreme Contacts in the snow, and I have those on my othre car, and they are phenominal in the snow.

Another cool thing is that the Potenzas have a 40,000 miles warranty, so if they wear out pre-maturely, you can get some of your money back. They are a bit cheaper than michelins too.

Had 4 Yokohama's Advan S.4. 235/45r17 installed Thursday of last week at my local Acura Dealership.

They replaced the Michelin Pilot MXM4 after less then 20,000 Miles approx. (Car has 55,000Km / 34,375 miles and I have dedicated Winter Wheels and Snow Tires).

Found the Yokohama less noisy, a little softer ride and the car does not want to rides the ruts anymore.

After less then a week, I am very please with my choice but please not that these will not see any snow.

I have also purchased the Yokohama S.4's 245/45-17-Fantastic tire, but you need to do research to decide what tire/price would be good for you.

There are so many choices, summer, all season, speed rating, size 235/45, 245/45, then decide whether you want to spend $100 or $200 p/tire installed.

As stated before, spend some time on the TireRack site, and don't forget that they have installers in many areas. An installer in my area only charges $10.95 p/tire for mounting, balancing, and new valves, although I didn't purchase the S.4's from the Rack.

Thanks guys, I live in the southwest, so snow traction isn't very important to me. I was actually looking at the Yoko's. I like them because they are low profiles, relatively the same size as the OEM Michellins, but cheaper and better quality. The Michellins were going for an average of $270!!!! Unbelievable!! That's over 1 grand in tires that don't even last up to 30,000 miles. I'd rather spend my money on different mods other than tires.

I put the Yoko ES100's on my TL. I've rotated and balanced them every 3,000, but the road noise is very bad. Performance is fine, but way to noisy. Would not recommend these.

The Continental ContiExtreme tires are dirt cheap!

Almsot half the price of other tires. Anyone know why that is?

Here goes another vote for the BS Potenza RE960AS PP's. I have more than 10k mi on these and am very happy with them. They are much better than the original EL42's and Falkens I had prior. They handle very well in the rain... and very quiet. Btw, don't get Falkens, those were good for the first few thousand miles and then got very noisy... and didn't last too long either.

Falken just came out with the ZE-912's, a better and longer lasting all season tire than the 512's discussed in these forums.

I bought them last December. My car drives smoother, quieter and gets better gas mileage now than with OEM HPT Potenzas. Sears will match Tire Rack's prices plus give you 10% off. Give them a try my installed price was $460, approximately.

UPDATE (Rant)

So I go to Firestone to schedule an appointment to have my tires replaced. I was gonna install the Bridgestone Potenza 960 Pole positions. Well After talking to the sales staff my bill came up to $1300!!! WTF...1300 for a set of tires? They also told me they would have to replace the tire sensors because they might break them during installation. This is B.S. I said forget it because if you aren't careful enough to change my tires without breaking something, then you're not touching my ride! I would be better off going to the dealer and replace my tires with the OEM Michelins.

Now I'm going to try Discount tire and go with the Yokohama Advan S.4. When I priced the Bridgestone's over the net it came up to about $900 after install. I don't know what kind of crap Firestone is trying to pull, but I won't let them screw up my ride.

In my entire automotive life going back about 35 years, I've NEVER had a set of Bridgestone tires nor met a Firestone dealer that I liked. Despite how good the RE960's might be, your experience proves what I've known all these years, A BULLSHITSTONE IS A BULLSHITSTONE IS A BULLSHITSTONE IS A BULLSHITSTONE.

Remember, it was Firestone who's tires were responsible for all those Ford SUV accidents from tire failure back in the 90's that resulted in 100's of lawsuits.

As far as I'm concerned, Firestone can take their entire line of tires and the company itself and ......................
..............

For your $$$, you can do a lot better than $900 installed for a top notch set of tyiz. I've got the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons, and I'd put them up against any tires recommended anywhere in this forum. Check out the reviews on Tirerack.

I only choose them because I already have an account set up with them. This incident just recalls how much I really hate that company.
The reason I have a TL is because 2 years ago I owned a 2000 Honda Accord and after Firestone changed my transmission fluid, the tranny crapped out a week later. I know this model Accord had tranny problems, but I think Firestone helped advance the problem to make more money. I thought changing a set of tires would be a piece of cake for these guys, but they can't even get that right without adding dumb charges and make claims about changing the tire sensor(if it ain't broke don't fix it!....and don't brake it to charge more to fix it).

Be careful here about the Ford SUV incident.

According the the results of the investigation, it was found that Ford's engineer had suggested a lower tire inflation pressure in the tires to lower the roll-over potential of that SUV in emergency situation.

It was not only Bridgestone fault but Bridgestone was blamed by Ford ( I hate Ford!) for these accidents.

Never mind the brand of tires, roll them under inflated with enough weight and speed and high temperatures and the thread will separate from the tire.

This is what started Washington to think about imposing TPMS on all cars.

Best regards

I noticed that this was posted a while back. Did these tires work well in the winter? I ready to get either some all seasonal tires or winter tires but not sure yet and noticed the good review on these tires and good price also.
