Need Help With Coilovers '08 TL-S

hey

looking to get a set of coilovers for my 2008 TL-S.
putting on 19" Ron Jons shortly and want to lower the car
so it sits nice a flush.

this is my 1st time lowering any of my cars and just wanted
to ask for advice on which coilovers to go with.
i want something that will have a smooth ride.
i've heard of the TEIN SS and the Megan's.

What do you guys recommend?

looking to spend around 800?

thanks

i've got megans and i love them. there is a guy in the black market selling a brand new set with upgraded springs for $830. i'm sure you can get him down to $800 shipped if you try.

you will get a million different answers, everyone will tell you to get whichever ones they currently have or had in the past. it's all subjective.

check out the suspension section, all the answers have been posted already. this thread will get moved to that section anyway.

good luck.

I think you should get something for $800.

I had Tein SS on my CLs and really liked them. Didn't you just spend money on a suspension?

Dont think your gonna get much of a smooth ride with the 19's regardless of the coilovers unless they are set at the softest setting, so I would get something adjustable.

Tein SS coilovers with 19" wheels properly adjusted can give you a very nice ride for the extreme handling it adds. If you get 245/35/19" Summer tires. I lowered my 2006 TL manual with Tein SS coilovers about 1.75" front and rear, I also added a 24mm Progress RSB. After I adjusted the damping on my TL manual I LOVED the ride and handling. WOW.

Before that I owned a New 2007 ASM TL Type-S and bought VOLK 18" wheels that only weighted 17.5 pounds, and Eibach coils = NASTY ride over big bumps, REALLY NASTY.

I thought Lightweight/VOLK 1 piece forged 18" wheels and Eibach coils would ride better then Heavy 19" AXIS HIRO wheels and lowered 1.75" with Tein SS coilovers.

I WAS WRONG. I ended up selling the VOLKS for a thousand dollar loss and had the NASTY Colis taken off !!!

Tein SS installed myself $1,000. 19" Heavy AXIS wheels $1400.
LOVED IT. $2400 AWESOME RIDE

Eibach coils only $250, install-$180, have Coils taken off-$180, 4 VOLK RE-30 Forged 18" wheels- $3200. $3800. NASTY RIDE

The Volks are good wheels maybe you could have also kept them and gotten another set of coils instead.

I'm running H&R Coilover's with no issues whatsoever.
It doesn't have adjust-ability but ride quality wise its been the better of the ones I've driven personally and tested.

As with most things you tend to get what you pay for.

With a $800 budget and based on your info I'd recommend the TEIN Street Basis coilovers. They are designed for the daily driver who wants a fairly good amount of lowering without sacrificing ride quality.

Go with the new version of the Tein SS, the Tein ADVANCE, just came out this January, softest setting feels twice as soft as the softest setting of the SS and harder setting twice as stiff, it has a 200% increase in adjustability performance over the SS plus its cheaper! i got mine for $940 shipped!

Well we can get you the TEIN Street Advance. In fact, we have them in stock. But what are you looking for in a suspension? If you want a softer setup for your daily driver then get the TEIN SA. If you want more damping adjustment as well as more ride height adjustment and a slightly firmer setup get our XLR8 ISC coilovers. We offer 3 different spring rates but if you want a softer setup I'd recommend our Street Comfort setting.
