Michelin MX

I just drove off the lot wth my 06 TL w/ NAVI. Has the Michelin Pilot MX tires. Wondering if people feel a lot better about those than the poorly reviewed Bridgestones? Anybody have experience in a Midwest winter with the Michelins?

Thanks.

Dont know about midwest winters, but the Michelins performed very good in Southern Ontario winter. VSA makes the ride even better with these tires. You'll notice a lot of people who have these and live in cold climates are sticking with these through the entire year.

I live in a fairly mild climate (San Jose) and I can say the tires are a tiny bit above average. The only thing that's annoying is that it chirps like crazy even with modest (not hard) acceleration from a complete stop. People look at me weird as if I'm some sort of race whore.

I get the chirp noise too esp. starting from a light on a dry hill.

The day after the first snow in NH, I had to stop on a hill with some ice and I could not get traction to get going. I had to back down the hill to get some weight on those fronts to get going.

For the dry, the Michelins are fine. But for snow (3" of fresh powder I tried during the first snow in NH), it was a little nerveracking.

My conclusion is to get snow tires (Dunlop Wintersport M3 on the way) on 2nd set of wheels.

Congratulations on your new car. I had these tires on my 03 TL-S, so I'll just tell you my experiences. As these are grand touring tires they give an exceptionally smooth ride. When new they are quiet and have moderate grip. Trouble sets in, however, at about 20,000 miles. They remain smooth, but the hard compound makes for a tire that transmits every road undulation through the steering wheel and through to your ass (quite frankly). Grip also suffers a great deal at this mileage; in fact, the grip could only be described as poor. I would recommend keeping them until 20-25K and then swapping them for a little higher performance variety. Hope this is helpful.
