Megans or Tein Basics???
Ive done alot of stuff to my including engine mods too and i dont know why I waited so long to drop it. If i could do it all over again I wouldve def dropped the car...all this time it has prevented me from getting rims because Im not into the 4x4 look. But anyways I can get megan coilovers new for about 820 shipped...or i can get tein basics used for much less. Tein SS is out of the question because I still have to buy rims and the SS is out of my price range. I can get a used set of tein Basics for about 500 shipped. I have read MrheelToes thread on the different suspension systems. Ive read countless posts about when the basics used to be $640 and countless threads about how people think megans are made of cheap material. I was just wonder if anyone can speak from personal experience and help me decide what to go with...megan coils with dampening adjustment for 820 NEW or tein basics for 500 used. Btw this is my daily driver...I am looking to get a 1.5 inch to 1.75 drop and I drive around NJ. How stiff are the basics? is the extra 330 worth for me to get dampening adjustment? I will also be paying $150 for the install. Also I will be sitting on stockies so should i get spacers for a more flush look? Ive heard something like 15 mm in the front and 20mm in the back. Now on to the opinions....what do you guys think I should do?

same boat as you mrlal8...
i personally think dampening is worth the extra money, and if you get the megans...they're brand new, not used like the teins...
i don't have any exp with either company, just what i've read and heard from other people. the way i see it, you have to ride in your car...might as well have it as comfortable as you can get it.

to the megan owners..ive heard setting 22 in the front and 23 in the back is pretty comfortable...am i correct? When I get the installation done I just want to have everything done there and dont want to deal with tweaking settings if i do go with the megans so ive been looking up what other people suggest

yeah thats why i sometimes sway towards the megans...but i wouldnt mind a stiff ride it would feel sportier but i dont know HOW stiff the basics really are lol...

love my megans have had them on now for probably 6 months no problems at all.... i first had them set pretty stiff but recently set them to mid way between stiff and soft and like the ride much better.
I think for $820 they are a great deal that is what I paid myself as well. However I installed them with the help of a Azine member took like 7 hours!!! not fun at all If i had to do it a second time Id gladly pay someone $150 haha... but now that i have done it i could probably do it a lot faster this go around
just watch out for speed bumps and driveway exits too me a little time to get used to navigating these being lowered

i think I am going with the tein ss now. Does anyone know what settings are comfortable for a 1.5 to 1.75 inch drop. If i go in to the install and tell the guy what exact dampening settings I want then I wont have to worry about changing things up again.

i have the tein ss installed and they're set at 8 (which is the middle setting and is 'recommended' in the install manual). took about a month for the coilovers to settle, but during that month, i was debating on adjusting the dampening level to softer and then things settled down. i'd recommend that once you have installed any type coilovers with dampening settings to leave the back seat down. that way, you can adjust the rear settings to your liking easier.

I went from BASIC's to SS. To me wasnt that much of a night/day difference. BASICs are like 8/8 settings on the SS. Right now Im running 3/3 ( 16 being Stiffest ). Im dropped about ~2in front/back no gaps on stockies.
I can tell you one thing though, the bumps on bumpy roads are more smooth and defined on the SS compared to the BASICS. No matter which TEINs u go with, the spring load is still stiff weather u get the SS or Basic.
If youre concerned about ride quality, definitely check out the HT-SPEC type-1. Heard it was comfortable. I wish tanabe made coilovers for our cars, i heard really good reviews on those as well..
