Lug Nuts: How many full turns to be safe?

I'm asking because the design of my rims only allow 5.5 to 6 full turns (360 degrees) followed by torquing. The design of the rims does not allow the wheel studs to protrude out as much as the stock wheels. I'm a bit concern even though I've been driving on it for a couple of weeks. Any opinions? Thanks!

Don't know about the number of turns, but the stud should project into the lug nut "hex", not including the taper, at least the width of the stud.

So, a M12 nut is 12mm in diameter, therefore the lug must extend into the hex of the nut 1/2".
