Looking for summer tires for 2007 TL Type-S

Already have a good set of winter tires (Blizzaks) with substantial tread life remaining. With the weather getting nicer here in Ohio, I'm looking for some nice summer tires to throw on. I have the stock rims right now so any suggestions are welcome!

opinions are cometh.

BUTT, what DO YOU WANT out of a tire?
How many miles do YOU WANT out of the tire?
Quiet or loud road noise!?
all season or max performance tire?!
How is your climate during the summer? rainy, wet? super dry?

if you can answer these questions, we can help you further.

Max performance, quiet. I live in Ohio so we don't have 4 separate seasons. It's winter, spring, summer, and fall all year around

Jk...summer is mostly sunny and dry, wet occasionally.

Get Michelin Pilot Super Sport!

You'll love it!

Amazing grip, and very quiet! 30K miles Warranty, and I'm going to push it to 45 or 50K miles!

There's a rumor goin' 'round that Nitto NT-05's kick ass.

So I've heard.

BTW - when did you need snow tires in Ohio this year?

Bought the car with the Blizzaks on them

Is it just me or are they the loudest tires in the word? Sounds like I am driving my four wheeler down the road.

I am running Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 as my summer tire....they fall in the UHP Summer (Ultra High Performance Summer) category and are bleedy awesome....great dry/wet grip and traction....I would def buy em again....

Also, I have heard great things about Continental DW (DWS for all season) and those tires are phenomenal as well....

^lol

Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Continental Extreme Contact DW
Nitto NT05
Hankook Ventus V12
Bridgestron Potenza (the new one, forgot what it's called lol, just don't get the RE030 )

All great dedicated summer tires (so i've heard). Rank is not listed in any particular order, just what came to mind. I'd stick with the big brands for a good performance summer tire though. They have the $$$ for the R&D.

If ultimate traction and performance is the goal while being quiet, the nt05 is the best choice. None of the others compare. Details why can be found in the many other threads on this subject.

I'm in the market for summer tires too and have decided to go with Continental Extreme Contact DW tires in 245/40/18 size. Does anyone know if Conti is releasing a new version of this soon? I noticed on Tire Rack that they are currently on closeout pricing so I wasn't sure if I should pull the trigger now or wait a month or two. I'm going to check in with Tire Rack but thought I'd ask if anyone here had any insight.

Think I'm pulling the trigger on this one. Continentals DWs for the summer and Blizzaks for the winter. Wonder how quiet the DWs are.

The DW's have a lot of good reviews from members here, as well as, Tire Rack. Here's a link to the tire. If you scroll down you can see the customer reviews and video test results. They rank pretty high on the ride and quiet side.

I just talked to Tire Rack on the new version of the Conti Extreme Contact DW coming out in the 245/40/18 size. The only difference between the current tire is the load rating. Currently, they are offered in 93Y and the new tire will be offered in a 97Y load rating.

Opinions are ok but most people will say their current tire is the best with no objective data. I can understand noise and comfort but saying one tire outgrips another with no numbers to back it up is not good. I've tested several performance aspects of every tire I've run and for the ones I'm considering but can't try out ahead of time, I go to the road race and auto-x forums to get an idea of performance.

For example the DW and DWS tires. Not even close to a trackable tire, not in the same league as the NT05 and Star Specs in performance but people review them as having good grip with no objective data and others continue to buy them based on.....feelings. They seem to be the forum boner for some reason.

I just got a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE970, all season tires which are night and day difference out ranked the Michelin Pilot A/S tires. Got it at costco with 70 dollars off. Not a bad choice to go.

For performance:
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....t+Z1+Star+Spec

For a balance of economy and performance:
Continental ExtremeContact DW

^^^ this.

huge differences between the tires specified. while treadwear isnt a universal measure, it gives you a good ballpark on what your buying. the dw is a 340 treadwear, the dws is a 540. star specs and nt05's are 200. night and day difference between 540 and 200 treadwears. the 540 will last forever but not grip for shit. the 200 will grip like a mofo, but not have near the longevity.

I havent ran the nt05's, but they are on my list of tires to try. the nt01's are a badass tire, but with the weight of these cars, thier longevity would suffer. especially with agressive or "spirited" driving.

A tire I really like that grips well and lasts really long is the nitto neo gen. aimed at camber impared cars (definatly last longer than any other tire ive ran with 3+ degrees of camber), but work well for the ocasional autoxer. only problem is thier lack of sizing.

I guess the main question to OP is how long you want your summer tires to last?

Just got the Michelin PSS in 245/40/18's on my TL-S 6MT and initial impressions are very good. I am still in the break in period but they have been very good in both dry and wet. I haven't pushed them too hard yet but in the rain, the limits are incredibly high.

They have a firmer ride but not harsh and they are quiet.

I have Conti DWS on my wife's RDX. I know a lot of people on the board seem to like them but I am not a fan. They provide a more comfortable ride than the stock MXM4's but I think you loose a little bit of precision. Grip is ok. Don't know how close they are to DW's but just an opinion.

Hope it helps.

I enjoy my Conti DW tires. I have conti DWS on my waffles.

For my driving style they suite me well.
If I was gonna push the car harder I would look into a different summer tire but I am happy with the noise and handling.

discounttiredirect.com had the cheapest price when I was looking a couple months ago.
