Looking to get new tires

Hey guys,

I am looking to get a new set of tires for my TL. Can anyone recommend a good brand of high performance all-season tires? Being in NYC, with winter only a few months away, I need all-season tires and the EL-42's just don't cut it. The 'feel' from these tires are pretty bad. I'm hoping to keep the same tire sizes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My choice would be either Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or Falken 512. Many members have been using them since last winter. They haven't complained yet.

For my money the best replacement for my HPTs was the PZero Nero M&S. They are #1 in the Ultra High Perf All Season survey in TireRack. I got them last week and will do a "first report" soon.

Michelin - Pilots, thats what is on my SS/AT/NAV no vibration & they turn like it's on rails.

I had the Bridestones on it but I was getting flat spots so I went back to my dealer and complained and they told me they would replace them with new tires and I told them I did not want another set of Bridgestone Iregulars on my car again so they opted to end it without a fight and gave in to giving me Michelins pilots instead. Great Tires.

Tha Falken Ziex 512's are the best value for your $ and the top rated high perfromance tire in Consumer Reports. Even on dry pavement they make the Bullshitstones seem like a joke. I love 'em! $500.03 for a set of 4, incl mounting, balancing, installation, old tire disposal fee (NY), Road Hazard warranty, and tax at ganintire. Ganin Tire

The Consumer Reports ratings were for H rated tires, not the W rated tires used on the TL. All I'm saying here is that these are two completely different tires and should not be directly compared to each other. It is good to know that Falken was the top rated tire, and many people have excellent results with their ZE-512's, but the information in the Consumer Reports article should be applied only to the H rated tire.

Go to http://www.falkentire.com/tires_512.htm and click on the yellow button on the right for specs.
You'll see the speed ratings for this tire in the TL's size, 235/45/17, is W.

That's exactly what I said, that the TL uses a W speed rated tire. Maybe my verbiage confused you. To put it simply, the CS review was for the H rated tire, and it was not for the W rated tire that is used on our TL's. This means they only tested the H rated size, and not the W rated size, which may or may not have produced different test results because of construction or materials differences.

Maybe so Ron, but all I know so far is that the 512's handling and hydroplaning resistance blows away the EL-42's.

I have the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S tires. I'm very happy with them so far (7000 miles), but have not had an opportunity to run them through much rain or snow.

As Ron was saying, the CR reports review did not include 'top-tier' all season high performance tires like the Pirelli's, ContiExtremeContact, and Pilots Sport A/S. If you really want the 'best' all season tire, these should be considered.

How do these tires wear? The OEM BS tires seem to last only 20-25K mi if you baby them. I don't want to change 4 tires with every oil change. I find the treadwear ratings on the tires too unreliable.

Also, anyone get credit on trading in the OEMs for upgrades? I'm thinking of driving straight from the dealer to the tire shop when I pick up my TL. How much credit should I expect?

I added the Falken 512's about 6 weeks ago and love them. I orginally wanted the Pirelli's but they were out of stock everywhere in the size I wanted. For a little over a $100 bucks each I decided to give the Falkens a try. May get the Pirelli's when the Falkens wear out.

According to the website, the only dealer around me is sears.. and they want 122.00 a tire, said it would be 600 bucks out the door without any type of road protection.

Any hints where-else I could find these?
